I can't get the transmission fluid back in my miata. :\
First I couldn't get the fill plug loose, then the damn pump isn't working, and the turkey baster I have in the garage has brake fluid all up in it from draining the cylinders.

Wound up losing 1/4 qt of Royal Purple to the floor.

Buuuut on the bright side, my new top and shifter gaskets come in tomorrow, and I'm supposed to meet up with the guy I bought the spare parts engine from and get the injectors.
Just a couple of things left to do before it's road worthy.

In other news....think my transmission is about to take a shit on me. Leaking like hell and now it's making a sound like an axle popping but can't see any visible damage to the axle.

Is it only making the noise while turning, or is it just under a load? Could it be possible either the CV shaft is bad, or possibly that it isn't seated all of the way?

Camera's in the garage, and I just took an Orange Clean shower so I'm not planning on going back tonight.
Engine is mostly together. There's a couple of wires left to attach, mainly the starter and some ground wire near the back of the engine.
I got fed up with the bullshit fluid pump, so I ripped off the hose and shoved it onto the oil spout and just squeezed the bottle. Took a little bit of effort, but it's all filled up.

I've got it on jackstands right now, as I just finished replacing all the fluids... transmission and diff are filled with Royal Purple 75w90, engine is filled with the cheapest oil I could buy for right now using one of the filters I got with the spare engine. I plan on seafoaming the car, driving it for a day, then switching to RP with the K&N filter I have.

Gotta go to Autozone tomorrow to pick up some coolant and a hose clamp, finish what's left to do in the engine bay, replace the shifter gaskets, bleed the brakes and clutch, and hopefully install the new soft top. And ofcourse finish the case of beer I have in the cooler!

No turbo. Just removed the muffler and put a new one in it's place because it was making an odd sound. My friend did the same thing and he says every now and again it will just idle horrible, but drive it a few feet and it will go back to normal. I didn't believe him, and then I drove it to the end of the driveway and it was perfectly fine.

Is the back pressure too low, and when it gets driven it builds more up?

One friend thinks pulley, I think pulley, another friend isn't quite sure, and the other is car illiterate, so he doesn't have an opinion on what it could be.

Guess I'll have to drive it until it makes the sound and then head to a friends house and and hit the ramps to look under. Sounds like it's coming from the drivers side, and low down.

Well, to start, look around that area. What do you see? Air box, wires, motor mounts, brake cylinder. Heat deteriorates everything. Hot air will mess with your fuel/air ratio.

It's not for weight reduction, it's because the motherfucker is rattling louder than a trunk with two 12's in it. I'd get some heat wrap for the area around it if I removed it. Or am I better off just doing some cosmetic work on it with a hammer so it clears the pipes more?

He did something wrong. The computer should recalibrate to a safe level for the motor to handle. I simple intake shouldn't do that to your motor.

I chose to join b/c I'm tired of having a job. I want a CAREER. No where else can I get a paycheck and learn a trade at the same time. Plus, being a father of 3 kids I have to look out for them. In the Army you get free medical, free dental and get numerous benifits and discounts.

My father served 30 years so I'm used to the lifestyle. I want my kids to have the benifits I did growing up. I honestly can say that even if the economy was good I'd prolly still be joining the Army.

Whatever you do DO NOT trust your recruiter no matter how much they seem like a nice person. They will tell you anything you want to hear. Also do not volunteer for anything while in basic. Stay low key as possible, Trust me on this. And def do not reply that you like any type of sport if the TI asks you, its a setup, again trust me.

The Recruiter will tell you what you want to hear just to get you to sign up. Because once you sign on the dotted line( well more like the one hundred dotted lines) they got you. Your best bet is to talk to some friends who have been in the Army or someone they know and ask them questions.

And as for the sports reference, they will ask you if you like bowling and you reply well fuck yea, who doesn't? And next thing you know your cleaning toilet bowls. Shit like that.

Your best bet is to stay under everyones radar and cruise through basic. In my experience I saw that most people who ended up volunteering for shit got screwed. Wait till you've been in long enough to see the pain train coming down the tracks before you volunteer for anything.


When you leave for basic have a short but not skin tight haircut. No hippie ass long hair or crazy hairstyles. Also wear blue jeans (or blue jean shorts) and a plain black, or blue T-shirt. You DO NOT want to draw any attention to yourself when you step off that bus. You're already gonna get it bad enough, and you don't want to make the TI fuck with you any harder.

When I got off the bus there was a guy with mid-back length hair and a Mis-fits T-shirt right in front of me. Holy shit did they fuck with that guy relentlessly. He ended up getting the worst "Duty" imaginable while we were in Basic. He was the Chow hall runner. He had to go in and report to the "Snake-pit" (where all of the Training Instructors sat) everytime before our Flight could go in to eat. He might as well have emptied porta-potties with all the shit he catched from them.

Now of course I was Air Force (which in my mind is the best service to go in but I wont fuck with you about that) and you're Army so it will be different. But I gotta imagine some shit is the same.





Start running your ass of now. Do a million sit-ups and push-ups. Get a backpack and put 100 pounds of shit in it and go on a 5 mile hike through a swamp. Do this as much as possible cause you will be doing this shit on a regular basis. I have a few friends who went Army and they constantly bitch about the forced hikes and marches. You will hate life.

But remember its all a head game. The whole reason for them doing that shit to you is to break you down and rebuild you mentally the way they want you. They do not want you to ask questions when you are told to do something. They want you to react and do exactly what they said. The most trivial shit in your mind is a huge deal to them. The way you tie your boots, the way you button your BDU's, the way you fold clothes, and the way you setup your wall locker are all major issues. They want to make sure you can follow the simplist of orders.

Your gonna hear this line a million times going through basic, PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL!!!

Listen to and do EXACTLY what they say, To the T, and remember its all a big head game, and you'll be just fine.


Oh and one last thing, There isn't any goddamn Saltpeter in the fucking water or food. It's all a goddamn myth. You might not know what I'm talking about now, but you will when you get there and have been there for a few days.

Well, I took the ASVAB today. I scored a 71 with line scores ranging from 113 to 131. (all very good scores) Basicly means I can qualify for any job as long as it is available.

Its an early christmas/birthday present from her. It one of 1000 ever made, and lemme tell ya- its a REALLY NICE piece!! And that's saying alot since my family and i collect quality watches (at $400 this certainly should be a quality time piece!)

Just make sure and pick something you can use on the "outside". There isnt really much of a need for Cobra Ammo loaders in the civilian world if you know what I mean.

Even if you plan on doing a full 20, you never know whats gonna happen in the next 20 years and you may get out early and have to get a job.

I scored mid seventies with a perfect in mechanical. Needless to say I was destined to turn wrenches. Luckily I got my A&P license and make good money in the civilian world.

I know there is a Helo repair place in PTC that is always looking for experienced Rotor heads. Aircraft maintenance pays pretty good on the outside, when your not laid-off that is. If nothing else Medical is a great way to go!
