Uhhh, hate to break it to you, but with a modified ECU and even intake, probably 90% of your warranty is out the window....besides the obvious intake which you can see, a dealer can see your reflash via a diagnostic scan.

This is not news to me. I knew this before I even considered my ECU upgrade. My service guy over at Jim Ellis knows about it. He knows about all of it. The only thing he told me was that he wanted to keep it a secret and then he asked if APR had a shop in Georgia now that he could visit. I'm not too worried about it...even if they do end up voiding my warranty.

You can program it yourself. I have stock, 91, 93, and valet. I also have a security lock out, and only I know the code, so even if they tried, they wouldn't be able to see.

That doesnt remove APR's software though. Its still visible through the WV computers. It's a VW, you WILL eventually need to cash in on the warranty.

I think it's time for a chill pill. No one was insinuating that you were stupid. This is a discussion forum for discussion, we were having a discussion about the visibility of a reflash. Nothing more.

VW/AUDI CAN SEE THE FLASH and odds are VW will void any warranty.

Go on VWVortex/Audizine etc. They will tell you the same thing. You can be running your stock tune all day long but just because those other flashes are on board it will void it(depending on the person you get). I had a short shifter in my IS300...they tried to not cover my clutch being replaced at 70k miles bc of it. One has nothing to do with the other from a wear standpoint, and while I was incredibly hard on the car it shouldn't have mattered. I eventually had my way but regardless dealerships are going to do whatever they can to get around having to fork out money.

I'm telling you they can see the tune, and if you get someone who is "by the book" you can kiss the warranty goodbye. Keep in mind, it's German and it's a VW..they're expensive to fix when it does go wrong. Keep it stock. Do go fast stuff post warranty and just save your money.

Oh and a flash loader doesn't hide anything it simply just changes the tune. So if you have a "race" option you can spend $8/gallon and run 100 octane and get to go fast :) If you want to do stuff like steve was saying go to Ross-Tech's website and look up their VAGCOM software kits. That's your best shot. But if you aren't worried about it then keep the flash loader unless you wanna do things like change the chimes in the car, roll down you windows with the key, things of that nature.

I am well aware that upon getting this ECU upgrade, I could possibly void my warranty. I read up on vwvortex, golfmk6, myfastgti, etc. ...I have, in fact, done my homework on this stuff before jumping into it. I flat out told my VW service guy what I had the second I walked in the door because I knew they'd find it eventually. I have my intake which can be clearly seen, plus my APR sticker on the back. It would've been obvious for them to check. He told me no problem and not to worry about it. It would be "our little secret". They may still end up voiding my warranty, I don't know. It doesn't really matter either way though because that's what you risk with these upgrades. I knew that before I got my Stage I. I talked about it with Ryan over at APR and he said the same thing you guys are saying. It's not news to me. You gotta pay to play...simple as that.

I am also aware of the car I am driving. German cars are not cheap by any means, but I think they're worth the extra just from the performance and quality you get out of them. That's why I bought my car. It brings me more enjoyment than anything else ever has (including the 911). I'll probably be more than happy to drop the money on this car when I need to. For now though, if they're not bothered by my APR stuff and are still willing to honor my warranty, then I'm not gonna bring it up again until they do.

i Guess I missed the Drama:

Fact: VW's break, I have owned and raced them for years. They all broke at some point, like all European cars do. And when they break, its expensive, like all European Cars (including my 2 BMW's)
Fact: Most dealers (VW included) can see software on an ECU, its a file that is visible whenever loded into the ECU. Weather it is active or inactive, makes no difference, its there. If its there, it voids the warranty. Same as Mitzu, same as Audi, same as Subaru.

Some module went bad and the shop said that it is a part that can only be bought through VW and that you sometimes have to go through 3,4, or 5 different modules until you get one that works.

Whether it is true or not I don't know, but that damn car breaks down every other day! It is giving me a bad taste for VW's.

I should have listened to steve when he said "stay away from B5 S4's". I bought it with a slight misfire. Changed the coilpacks now I have a nasty misfire. Changed spark plugs and gapped them, no change. No I run super rich and get awful gas mileage and still have a misfire lol

Now it's trial and error, ICM's, EGT's, 02 sensors etc. Hopefully it'll be fixed this weekend..then it's off to allspeed for a smoke machine test to see where my boost leak is coming from. THEN I SHOULD be okay..maybe..for 5minutes. Ha!

If you enjoy your car and it's cheap, then more power to you! The Miata just didn't do it for me. I wasn't in love with it (I actually hated it), and I don't regret getting rid of it one bit. I'd rather pay more for what I love than less for something I hate (I don't wanna pay anything for something I hate haha).

James, have you checked the timing to see if it's off? IIRC, you said the timing belt has already been done? I would be curious if one of the camshafts timing is off a tooth? Only way to find out though is to pull the timing covers off and check. You could also compare the compression on bank 1 vs bank 2. If one is notably higher than another then timing is more likely off.

We have one customer who is a complete waste of fresh air that bought a B5 S4 knowing it had a blown turbo on the driver side. He called in asking what it would cost to get it replaced. IIRC, it was something like 16.5 hrs as it calls for removal of the engine. I love Audi but that B5 chassis is a royal money pit. EVERYTHING will break and bend you over each time you take it in for service.

im assuming your talking about the usdm h22a1 transmission? i had the usdn h23 gearbox and it worked well. i dont recall all the differences,but the h23 box is a tad wider in gear ratios- 2nd gear in particular. its not a big enough difference to really matter though as my car moved along as good as Davis's despite being portlier and he having the shorter gearing.

Gotta go put the interior back together on the shitbox, grab some heater hose, drop in the radiator and the shitbox is ready to fire up!!! I had to fab an adapter for the rearend breather today. Turned out pretty decent for once. Now I just gotta mount it.

Factory LSD= expensive. Honestly, you don't NEED it. You could save alot of money by grabbing the H23 box and rolling out.
Euro R bolt-ons are nice but imo, overrated.
I had a stock internal JDM H22A (non euro r/type s) with bolt-ons, stock internals, crappy basemap, and full interior and made 193whp and kept up with Davis when he had his JDM motor with cams, gutted, etc.... So basically if you can drive and pick and choose the right parts, you're good

That would be the tinsel lead. Is it severed at the actual cone or at the terminal connection? I've fixed plenty, but only when there is still lead attached to the cone. Regardless, 15" are old school.... they're large, heavy, and inefficient. A good 10" will give most 15" a run for their money. It's not worth the repair honestly.

I noticed the goober who originally created my pixel car file you used didn't realize the RSX uses reverse mount calipers....they're supposed to be mounted towards the rear of the hub, not the front!

They're aftermarket wheels...warranty wouldn't cover that. I don't think warranty covers wheels just in general lol

If you really have a cracked wheel, the smartest idea might be to hold off on those LED's and get those wheels replaced.

Right now I'm working on having my dealership just swap wheels with me so I can have the stock ones for my car. Worse comes to worse, yes, I'll just buy a cheap set of wheels so I can have something immediately, but it's really not something to be concerned about. That's the honest answer.

Well, I FINALLY got me a car. It was $900.00 and in decent shape. It is a 1987 Chevy Cavalier z24. I LOVE the looks of it and the challenge of restoring it/modding it. It has a 2.8 liter V6, 5 speed manual and a factory fiberglass cowl induction hood. May not be what a lot of you would drive but its all good. Here are some pics.

Now, I've already started tearing out some of the interior so you'll have to excuse the center console being gone.

Not to start anything but are you saying that the wheels you currently own will go on another vehicle that is currently on the lot to be sold to someone? Personally, I wouldn't put that cracked wheel on ANY car I would be selling. That's a huge safety issue and to sell the car knowing it has a defective wheel without mentioning it to the interested party is wrong, IMO. I hope you prove me wrong.

My sales managers know about the crack in the wheel. I pointed it out when the car first got to the dealership. Unfortunately, I bought it under "as-is no warranty" (except for what was left of factory warranty), so they couldn't replace it. They'll replace the wheel if they decide to swap with me. The crack really isn't all that bad either, to be honest. I don't know if I over exaggerated it when I first mentioned or something, but it's nothing to really worry about.
But to answer your question, no...we wouldn't sell a car with a cracked wheel to a customer. We'd replace it before it went back out on the lot.

And they basically have the same car that I have on the lot except it's black instead of grey. So, I'd just be getting the stock Detroits off the car.

Doubtful. Its hit and miss here in Newnan. Some nights there's a decent turnout, others not so much. This will be the first time out for me since last July when the Shitbox broke.
