Lockheed Martin. I'm the Older dude with the Bitchin haircut on the end. Get your A&P license. The money gets a lot better when you move into the Major Airlines or Fedex / UPS. Plan on making 100K+ when you top out at one of the majors. Of course thats with overtime.

Just letting you know that even the reserves are overseas right now. Also, don't believe half of the things that recruiters tell you, their paycheck depends on how many people they can get to sign up basically. Keep your parents in mind, but dont base your decisions off of what they say. They don't have to live with the decisions that you make (unless you just want to live off of them lol). Nope. I did 4 years as an F-15 Mechanic in the Air Force. After you do 3 years in that field you can do something called "Challenge the FAA" for an A&P license. You basically take your 623's up to the local FAA Office and show them what you've been trained on. If they think its enough to use in place of going to school, they give you your "Tickets". Basically a pass to take the General, Powerplant, and Airframe tests. You then study those tests and take the exam for each one. After you pass you go to someone and take a "Oral and Practical" Exam. Basically some guy you pay a bunch of money to asks you a bunch of questions about Aircraft then you work on his or his buddys plane for free and he signs you off on your License.


When you get down to it an A&P is nothing more than a license to learn. Then you hopefully get on with the majors, Keep your damn job, then hopefully retire. Keeping the job seems to be more of a challenge than anything else in my career.

right now i'm a mechanic's helper. My dad's a certified trainer and can sign me to just go take my A&P when I feel I'm ready. I dont have to go to school, but i will. I plan on making my decision between aircraft or automotive by may.

Cool, man. I'm at the suntrust hangar and the old Bellsouth (state of Georgia) hangar at Brown field working on citations, cessnas, and gulfstreams.

right now i'm a mechanic's helper. My dad's a certified trainer and can sign me to just go take my A&P when I feel I'm ready. I dont have to go to school, but i will. I plan on making my decision between aircraft or automotive by may.

I've been procrastinating the decision between the two because of the unreliability of aircraft work but since I was just laid off of my automotive job, I see there is no safe place to be in a mechanic's position. Trying to find which one I see myself spending time on schooling and picking a carreer.


What school for aircrafts are you considering going to?

aircraft is a high risk job. being a very high luxury, when the economy plummets, the first thing in a company to go will be the coroporate aircraft. A&P school is usually 18 months. First you get your Airframe then take classes for powerplant.

Research before you jump into an aircraft job. It's fun but not always permanent.

yeah. we went over a handful of pointers and tips/ideas yesterday afternoon then last night i talked him into sending me another map. he was reluctant and very unsure if the car could take it but the results were staggering.
by comparison, my fathers car couldnt handle near as much timing and as a result is down roughly 20wtq and 15whp. its very impressive considering theres 173k miles on my car and original turbo. the faggin wagon's not so faggy anymore. hahahaha

For what job? 542-3, 606-3, or 385-3? Now's a great time to get in there. With all of the P-3, C-130 and C-5 work we have going on plus not to mention the F-35 work. Lots of jobs are coming available for people with experience. Just make sure and join the union. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't be making what we make (topout is $34hr+ ) (You'll more than likely start at $17 hr) or have the kick ass health benefits that we do.

spun a bearing on the way to atl last night. we were 4 wide (bobby, Teng, LB and myself- with 4 people in the car lol) and did a highway pull to about 120. Started hearing a funny noise and thought my turbo finally gave up. then it sounded more in tune with the motor and i was hopeful it was an exhaust leak, but by the time we got to Ru Sans, it was clealry a bearing going bad.....
I've got a few options I'm weighing and discussing with both my tuner, and the guy who tuned steve's car (my tuner will be tuning it, but steve's could potentially be building it)

It was slap empty of oil when I picked it up but I didn't notice nor did the previous owner tell me. Heard some weird metal sound and got home to park it. Fortunately it will start back up. Only let it run for one second to hear that it would start. Going to the shop for a full tune up this week and gonna have them check into what the problem could be. I think im burning oil like hell. I can put my hand behind the exhaust tip and black shit will cover my hand in speckles at a time.

Yes I did. The primary reason behind that is known only to a few so I wouldn't expect you to understand. Bike motors are relatively inexpensive to rebuild so it doesn't hurt if that needs to happen. We still have maybe another month of cold weather anyway so....better now than later.
