its home. got it back around 3 yesterday evening.
Deffinately a bearing failure!! Plenty of oil in it (i checked it the night before it happened so I knew it was good). It was 100% my fault. My tuner wanted to stop at one point stating he didnt want to go any further for safety reasons. The turbo was past its effieciency range at 21.5psi so we were making more and more power by adding timing. We were getting results- constantly adding power without any knock! We couldn't get it to knock even in the mid day heat at the track! The motor was healthy and he stated he NEVER seen a car take this much timing and not knock, nevertheless with 173k miles! I told him i was making pull after pull (in the span of 3 days roughly 30-40 pulls) and no ill effects. We started to think this engine was from God above, and i told him send me another map: we're gonna go even bigger! At this point I already had possibly the most powerful 2 liter with that turbo (TD04) on 93 pump gas in the world! We were going for the quarter mile record saturday, but the heat was a heartbreaker (looking at the logs and actual ambient temperature, we believe cooler weather would have allowed the faggin wagon to go mid 12's).
We were still on cloud nine about the reliability and abuse the motor was taking at this level of tune. We were gonna go for even more....
That night, my gf and I picked up tommy and jamie and we met up with LB, steve, David, and bobby to go to atl to eat. We were 4 wide and did a pull from 65-120+. Despite the serious weight disadvantage, the wagon walked away from everybody. Upon slowing down I detected a bad noise and called steve telling him to listen for it as I drove by him. I was hoping it was the turbo. By the time we got to the restaurant, it was pretty obvious what was wrong.

The failure was caused by me being greedy. I was competing with another car my tuner was working with in NY. This other guy and I were going back and forth trying to make more power then the other despite the fact that our tuner told us to leave it alone. He said we were stubborrn twins. lol
while i was assuming no knock meant we were good to go, I didnt sit back and realize what was going on in the cylinders as we kept advancing the timing. It was creating more and more pressure earlier in the comustion process, putting more downward pressure on the rods creating excessive stress. the weakest part of the rod? the bearing.....

Most stock foci run 18's. You at least have the zetec engine but an automatic trans. So you'd probably run mid 17's.

I'm starting to have a reason to change the transmission. Every time I start the car and when it shifts from 1st to 2nd, you could feel a slight grinding feel when it goes from 1st to 2nd. You could hear it too. Plus I need a key cylinder... Damn Ford.

^Check with the dealership and see if it can get replaced under warranty due to the recall. It took forever to get your car started the last time i helped and felt like it was gonna get stuck in there at anytime.

Looks like Grey it is!!! Hopefully by next winter the car won't have any more grey. But as of right now the suspension and mechanicals gets a way higher priority. That and I still need to put a roll cage in. And its looking like with the new wheels I shouldn't have to swap rearends to the 99+ rearend so that will be nice. I hate swapping everything over. But on a side note my Maximum motorsports rear lower control arms and my Maximum Motorsports Caster Camber plates showed up in the mail yesterday!!!

How fast are vtec sols?

A tick behind a stock GSR. Either way- 15.5-17 depending on the driver. Bacon had a non-vtec Sol that was running 15.5 with simple bolt-ons. Not bad at all. The transmission he had and torquey 2 liter probably had alot to do with that though. Just reinforces my belief than old school (pre- K series) motors are just as good in the non-vtec variety.

Yeah my old Sol was fun. His Del Sol VTEC would probably be .2 seconds faster than my B20 setup with B16 tranny.

doubtful. If you can launch the B20 right (most fwd cars that night were having traction issues- you seemed to do ok) It'd walk the piss outta the VTEC car. Hell, Bobby's LS sol with gsr tranny raped tommy on the highway. Hate to say it, but proper gearing with the non-vtec torque/power curve owns.

We opted not to get the Contour so that we could buy more needed things like a TV among other stuff for the apartment. This also saves more in the long run for when we move out and actually get a house.

We decided this together and it was a smart move. I told her I don't mind keeping the Focus and doing a few things to it and rocking it the way it is. She is cool with that.

Now I have to decide on what exactly I want to buy for the Focus. Wheels are priority but since it's a 4x108 bolt pattern my choices are limited. However, the STi reps from Rota (Rota Group A or GR-A) are looking mighty good right now.

Just check to see if the relay you have is the same blade setup as the spares and also check to see if same amperage. If so swap them. X1 - X2 are usually the terminals that actuate the relay. Look for power on each relay at those terminals. If there is power at X1 and X2 then you know something is telling the relay to turn on. If not then you know you have a stuck relay. Or even easier just pull each relay and read the stamped schematic on the side and ohm's check it to see if its open or closed.
