Any DSLR with true 1:1 macro lens could do the same thing. It is more on the lens than the body.

Yeah I understand that, I guess what was really trying to get at is whether or not this is cropped or if it's the original size. I don't really know anything about macro photography.
It was shot at 1:1 life size then I cropped it a lil bit to make it look more than 1:1. I could use extension tube or teleconverter to increase the magnification to 2:1 or 3:1. 1:1 is true life size, 2:1 is 2x bigger, 3:1 is 3x bigger....Macro photography is fun, but it requires a lot of patience. You have to hunt and stalk those insects without scaring them away.

You are right hotshot. It was shot using Tokina 100mm f2.8, BUT with extra. To answer DinanM3atl, the Tokina 100mm f2.8 only give me 1:1 life size. This little spider was shot at more than 2:1 life size. The spider itself was small. I used diopters on top of the Tokina. I got tired of 1:1 pretty fast (after 2 weeks of learning how to macro), and now about to be the same with 2:1. I will change my set up to shoot at 4:1 or 5:1 pretty soon.

Bump that ISO up a notch if you are hand-holding the camera @ 1/25th...


Compositionally, its okay, but I would like to see more of the leaf on the bottom.

The pup is a great shot, it's amazing how light can add so much depth to a photo. The face good use a little post processing to be lightened up.

Also still getting used to the distance I have to stand from things w/ the 50mm lens (that was my first day/night using it). . I only shoot in manual mode. .

Lighting is the single most important thing in a shot like this. From the reflections in the marble topped island to the ones on the stainless steel and on the hardwood floor. There's even a window in the background that looks to be a good 50' away lol!

Where in FL are you moving to?I've been doing architectural design for years so I'm comfortable with layouts and it helps that I want to do it along with photography. It's not official yet but near West Palm Beach on one of the islands a block from the beach.
