Thanks I want to get a shot like this one day. But even then none of the midtown condos are visible. I don't know of a place where you can get the entire skyline in a photo.

You dont need "expressed permission" to post a picture unless you're doing it for some kind of commercial advertising
You dont need "expressed permission" to post a picture unless you're doing it for some kind of commercial advertising
your assumption would file under the field of journalistic photography... I take pictures of these people under their understanding that I am going to sell them the image with the stable's logo on it, which does have its restrictions. Posting pictures of children on horseback without permission would be reckless on my part.

If that was the case she could take you to court for hosting it on a web page. My statement goes for EVERYTHING that comes off your camer sensor. Your picutre falls under the same case as that pic of Ludacris up there. I'll post up a couple lists of rights when I get back home tonight.

Good call sir. Fixed.
So are you afraid she's gonna take you to court for posting her picute up on a message forum? If that was the case she could take you to court for hosting it on a web page. I'll post up a couple lists of rights when I get back home tonight.
I might have it twisted, but taking a picture in a public event of a celebrity and posting it on the internet is a bit different than taking a picture of a child and posting it up for all to see. I'll be interested to see where this falls in the list of photographer's rights.
In any case I am sure the parents, if given a choice, would rather not have the likeness of their child posted up on a car forum. I would also not want to loose any customers for my lack of discretion or character...and gain customers for the recognition of protection for their personal privacy.
Thanks for bringing up the issue!

Lol no I was hanging out of the window of a g35. It was for an assignment at school. We were going exactly the same speed- that's why it's nice and crisp. But my teacher HATED it. It fucking pissed me off. If you saw the rest of the class you would facepalm. He said I need to get out of my "comfort zone". And that the car looked like and insect. LAME! He said he would be happier if it was around 1/8 - 1/4 second. Oh well he can suck it.

happier like how?.. with the background blurred so much that it is mushy and dissolved... this is just right... you did good... I compare this to river shots that if you have too long of a shutter speed you have milky water that loses its appeal. In this shot you get a sense of your surrounding through a motion blur that leaves things to the imagination... as opposed to throwing it out the door.
you teacher is probably pushing you... so take that as a sign for get angry and push back... get out of your comfort zone... and shoot some stuff that is not your style... but not gay porn.

Thanks! I shot it at f22 and I have tried at f32, but I noticed quite a bit of contrast and sharpness loss (diffraction maybe?). Since the magnification is high, making the dof so thin, I could not get the whole droplet in focus. I was aiming for the refraction. There is way to do that by taking multiple pics of different sections of the subject, and using software to focus stack them into one picture with huge dof.
thought i'd try out the DVD lens trick on my camera phone... BB-Storm + scratched (I scratched it when gouging it out of the machine) dvd lens from an old broken dvd player

FREAKIN AMAZING! LOVE IT!
thanks man... my setup: blackberry storm, dvd lens, scotch tape, christmas cactus, strong natural light on subject and background in shadow. the small camera sensor gives the ability to have a greater DOF with macro pictures. I think the macro comes out better than the normal pictures on this phone lol

you have a fair amount of noise in the spider man image... high ISO hand-held?
Angel is the cats name... my girlfriend has had him for 14 years, born at her house. He is big 17 pounds.
The room divider is made out of old glass folding doors and closet doors... not bad for the job.
Kamikaze
12-14-2009, 07:11 PM
Yeah I was at 400-500 iso. I had to crop the spider man too, while the tree is 100% just resized. I might try it again tomorrow.

Kamikaze
12-14-2009, 11:44 PM
I used it on the background but not on the figure itself as it makes everything soft. The only thing I can think of is cropping it so much makes the noise more visible. The tree is also at 500 and it doesn't look like that.

how do you recommend avoiding that? i only have the internal flash so i tried to soften it with a napkin in front of it
how do you recommend avoiding that? i only have the internal flash so i tried to soften it with a napkin in front of it
In this case it is a very "flat" image because it is so evenly lighted from a head-on strobe, not to mention the reflection off the leather.
I would use an external light source(s) (desk lamp or something) for your lighting and not the strobe. You will probably have to play with your white balance because the lamp lights are very "warm". Experiment with the angle of the lighting on the shoe... Try to heavily light one side and reflect some of that heavy light on the shadowed area with a white card/wall (or lesser light source).
A tripod for your camera and aperture around f16 for a deep DOF.
I know it is a lot for a picture of a shoe but it will help you get a good understanding of product photography.
