As I understand it, many of the things you have to do along with the TRD SC to get it to 311 will void it's warranty. If you get headers, the warranty is voided because you are exposing it to excessive heat. Lightened crank pulley, overdrive and underdrive pulleys are mentioned in the small print of the warranty. Also, I think the SC warranty is a lot shorter than the powertrain warranty of the car.

if you get the TRD supercharger installed from a Dealer you get a 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty on it. If you buy it over the counter you get a 12 month part warranty. And to be honest with you, with the parts warranty it can be hard to get it replaced under warranty cause most likely they will say that you installed it wrong or ran it wrong or something like that.

The act of getting the header installed wont void your warranty, However is there was a problem, say catalytic converter was to go bad and you came in to get it warrantied. When they see the header, they will decide not to warranty the converter and immediately place blame on the header. thus you will be stuck with a bad cat. This scenario replies to any aftermarket part you may choose to add to your vehicle.

Not to mention, it kinda puts a squeeze on wanting to mod the tC at all.

That's with any company. Doing drivetrain modifications will run the risk of voiding your warranty. I wouldn't worry about it much, I mean, it is a Toyota.

There's alot of footwork in terms of choosing what's better for the performance and the wallet.

Personally, I'd feel more comfortable about the S/C because it is Toyota approved. Even though it costs more, it's good to have that peace of mind.

I just got Tein S-Tech springs, which are waiting for me in a my room as we speak.

I want to keep it my DD, but make it fun to drive especially with it being a A/T.

So I plan on going the N/A route for right now because I don't have the need to boost or supercharge her just yet.

So after the springs, I'm looking at:

1. TRD Shocks
2. Fujitia CAI
3. Tanabe Concept G Axleback Exhaust
4. Invidia S-Pipe
5. Megan Header

I want to keep the body stock so the biggest exterior modification I would get done is a CF Lip Kit and my tails lights tinted by Bucky once I get the time to take my happy ass to Lawerenceville.

I just ordered some "super A beam" rods from Carrillo to go along with the CP Pistons, combined with the shop whos building the motor, the factory gasket kit, an FSM, and a stand alone Engine Management system. the motor build is underway. all that should be left will be larger turbo, injectors.. but I won't be even thinking about that until a few numbers come through.

I will have a full 2.5 inch exhaust mandrel bent, high temp coated, (connected with a 24inch MagnaFlow muffler) for sale soon. I have to go 3inches... I paid 900 for it to be made,I want to let it go for $550 and I might be able to help have it installed at the shop...

so if any of you Scion kids want a new full custom exhaust (that sounds amazing BTW) let me know.

Edit: I might post a few. I honestly want to finish the car first before I go toot'n ma horn.

the TC's 2AZFE motor will outboost/outpower your 1.8T on stock internals anyday of the week. Granted it has a .6liter advantage but none the less quite a bad ass little motor and completely overbuilt. The car is also physically lighter then your Golf aswell......so dont count it out in the handling department too soon either....they arent horrible cars....they are just Toyota's economy based division....you get what you pay for

Are you saying that boosted the motor is more powerful? Its not boosted though. If so you are comparing two different things. And if so we can talk about boosting vw's 2.8liter.

Because 180hp>157hp every day of the week. And with 2k in mods done to each car the GTI will own the TC.

And the weight difference is not large at all, the scion is 2905 lbs. and the GTI is 2932lbs. Not a big deal.

well if you want to get technical, the factory rated the TC at 160hp/163tq and your 1.8t in the 2001 model year was rated at 150hp/155tq respectively...so i dont see your arguement there....infact the TC has you beat, and N/A at that..also if you're wanting to argue the 2002 1.8t and its 180hp rating, Toyota offers a factory standered option of a TRD supercharger for a small sum of $3000 added to the sticker price of the car....it retains the factory warranty and adds (with a small amount of boost) ~50+ hp. so 160>150 and 210>180, any day of the week!

Straight from car and driver in 2001: "The GTI feels faster than it really is, however. Zero to 60 mph takes 8.5 seconds, and the quarter-mile arrives in a leisurely 16.5 seconds at 84.3 mph" The TC does the 1/4 BONE STOCK in 15.7 (as tested by Sport compact car) and 0-60 takes almost a second less at 7.8 secs.....so you lose here too

If you then wanna add mods to your VW, a $110 NST (9.5psi-10psi) pulley and a decent open custom exhaust job can get the TC into the 250+whp range easy and with a good driver be dipping in the 13's as well

I hesitate to make an argument solely on performance. Thats not the reason I hate Scions. I hate scions because they are a youth division, they have lame "aftermarket" accesories that you buy straight from the dealerhsip. I find the whole customization from the factory thing . The marketing scheme is lame as well.

Okay. Well if you want to compare my GTI to a 20K scion go ahead. If I put the same kind of aftermarket in it, probably less I will make 200+whp. So I can definately touch that.

The prices are a completely different story.They are much different cars. And the GTI is more money for a reason. Also VW doesnt have an affiliated division for the GTI like TRD. We have Volkswagen Racing but they do nothing basically.

Its not a losing one. I am not arguing that my year GTI is faster stock. You are comparing a 2004 scion to the bastard child of stock MK4 GTI's.

My car is obviously less expensive than a 04 Scion TC. If I invested the difference in mods, I would rape a TC.

So here are the scenarios:

Stock 2001.5 GTI 1.8T vs. 2004 Scion TC- Scion tC wins

2001.5 GTI 1.8T vs. TC with 3k in mods- GTI wins

Stock 2004 GTI vs. Stock 2004 Scion TC- GTI wins

2004 GTI with 3k in mods vs. TC with 3k in mods- GTI wins

That is the performance. If you want to talk about doing a scion and adding forced induction compare it to a GTI with a turbo upgrade. A GTI with a bigger turbo such as a GT28 will make 260+whp.
