No codes. I think the timing belt is stretched, and the tensioner isn't holding what it's supposed to...therefore allowing slack and causing the timing to get off when it's under load...causing it to be *shit*

Replacing timing belt this weekend. We'll see what it does.

Tensioner's like 60 (AcuraAutomotiveparts.org) And can a tensioner REALLY go bad? Wher eon it goes bad?

Stay away from Autozone or Advance Auto trust me LOL just try a junkyard first before going to one of those places, but if your timing belt keeps jumping off time it has to be the tensioner IMO I could be wrong.

Well, the belt never lined up PERFECTLY on the cams anyways (according to their timing marks). The cams always had to be just slightly turned to get the teeth to line up, which is PROBABLY why I couldn't get the timing to stay right in the first place. Positive it's jumping timing, though. My guess is in addition to a stretched (and stretching) belt, I didn't have the belt tensioner bolt tight enough...

All will be answered with this weekend experiment. I just gotta baby it cuz I've got about 50 miles to drive with that belt to make it home...cross fingers it doesn't go...

Yup, already looking for a replacement. But that spring doesn't do anything once that bolt is tightened down...it only helps to put a little tension on the tensioner until you get the bolt tight...

To substitute for that spring being bad, we stuck a pick down in there and hooked the tensioner and pulled the belt tight...

To summarize, it WAS tight to begin with...and loosened on my way up here. However, that doesn't fully lead us to the tensioner being bad because I parked it over night and started it up the next day...make note, it was very cold. The car ran like a dream for about 10 minutes until the car started getting warmed up.

Yes, stock LS...

The question is why is the belt loosening up? Bad belt, or bad tensioner? If bad tensioner, it doesn't make sense that it ran fine when cold...

And I'm not sure if the bolt wasn't tight enough. I'm only guessing it was too loose...

Either way, I shoulda saved myself the trouble and just replaced the damn timing belt when I first did the swap and the engine was out of the car...oh well, live and learn. I've got a picker, so it won't be that hard...

If you have the money, I would replace both tensioner and belt, make sure the timing marks are lined up right, and everything should work out great. Your throwing no codes so it could just be the timing problem but before you start spending money or doing any type of work check the timing again just to be safe.

Yeah they had a recall on the main relay. So honda designed a new one, but didn't recall the the cars. They are like $45 at the honda dealership. I would get it from there.

It's kinda crazy! Honda cant even tell you whats wrong with your car when the main relay goes out. It's kinda like a guess and check fix.

Since your B16 is stock you really wouldn't have to worry about that right now, but when you get all of your bolt on's and do any headwork (if you plan to) it would be a good thought to go with obd1 so you can chip it and tune it so you can squeeze a bit more power out of it! You should snatch those pistons up from spoon ASAP!

Tell me if im wrong But Scotsman I think this is what you will need to do if you wanted to wire up your motor yourself,

on the JDM wiring harness you have already;

Vtec Solenoid should be "Yellow/Green" and it needs to be in pin number A4
Vtec Oil Pressure Sensor "Blue"( off the pass side Harness) pin # D6
Vtec Ground "Black" chassis ground
Knock Sensor "Red/Blue" 12V(hot in ON or Start) meaning when you turn the car on it should recieve power but when you turn it off it turns off LOL
Evap Purge Solenoid "red" pin # A20

Since your B16 is stock you really wouldn't have to worry about that right now, but when you get all of your bolt on's and do any headwork (if you plan to) it would be a good thought to go with obd1 so you can chip it and tune it so you can squeeze a bit more power out of it! You should snatch those pistons up from spoon ASAP!
