I had never tried getting lightning shot before and sure as hell know nothing about it. That picture was just luck. Manual, 1.6, Hard shutter, with remote trigger locked. So it was just taking pictures over and over. So I got kinda lucky. I definately wasnt expecting that. I wish I had a smaller lens still.

Looks good, huge improvement over the first shots with the D40 If you put the f/stop even higher all the buildings in the background would be as sharp as the varsity torch tower. Of course that would make the photo alot darker so you would need to decrease the shutter speed to compensate...which would make the taillights and headlights one long continuous line of light instead of starting and stopping. Just an idea!

Did you get attacked by mosquitoes? The middle is full of stagnant water that is a breeding ground. I went there last summer and did not get a single shot before they were swarming around me. All the pictures I posted were during the winter to keep from having that problem again.
    One more shot:

No it wouldnt have.. Turning up the ISO would have gave it a higher possibility to show NOISE.. speedminded was correct in his words..

yep, no reason for a higher ISO if a tripod is being used.
