Well my point is (I guess based on my upbringing) is why should anyone have to "deal with it?" There is no reason that so much emphasis should be put on race at all IMO. I just don't (and never will) get why there is so much emphasis on it down here. It's fucking ridiculous.

I ask myself this question often. Is it possible for someone to be raised in a racist home and not be racist themselves? In my case, my mom is not racist, but she is not too fond of white people. I have absolutely nothing wrong with anyone! And I don't like racist people. We are all sisters and brothers under GOD's eye. With us living in the south she is always telling me about how backward and redneck some white people are here and they will smile in your face and pretend to be your friend, but deep down they hate you and they hate the ground you walk on. They will spend their entire lives ruining yours if they can. I try not to think like her because I try not to categorize people by their race, but the situation I have just gone through with my neighbors (white), has made me see what she has been saying to me all those years. Now it makes me confused. I don't want to dislike anyone because of their color, but how will I know if a white person is being sincere to me and are not trying to destroy me and degrade me? I don't believe I could ever hate anyone, but I can say it makes me very skeptic about if I can trust white people or not. All I have been taught my entire life is that white people in the south hate black people with a passion. Even with the events that happened here on IA, I can say I see what my mom was saying. Chris I think you misunderstood the point I was trying to make. I said there are some white people, not all honey, that are out there to ruin black people because of our color. I have just happened to run across one of thoee white people. Some of them pretend to be your friends so that they can get close to you and fuck your shit up! I'm hurt like fuck! I have never had to face this dilema in my life! I'm heart broken. I can't hate white people, I mean then I would hate myself. I just don't know who to trust. I obviously don't have that sense that lets me know when someone is truely racist. I guess I have a problem to see people as they truely are. I just know that being here in the south I am more likely to run across someone racist.

Yes. I grew up with my grandparents. I noticed little subtle hints at "separation" that they used. I could never watch black TV shows(Cosby Show, Jefferson's when i was growing up). My home wasn't outright racist. I never heard the N-word being used and black people weren't talked about at all in the home. Not because we weren't allowed to. We just didn't. My grandparents(when I first moved in with them) lived in Decatur(Columbia Dr.). They moved out when the black folks started moving in. When I brought home my first daughter(black), and then my wife(Japanese), they were very upset. Wouldn't have anything to do with my new family. After a year of no talking, they finally invited us all over to their house. Now, 15 years later, my daughter still talks to them all the time and things are good. They are the minority in their neighborhood now and things are great. Later, QD.

I've basically grown up around rednecks. Most of my father's side of the family cam from Alabama. I hear the n word get thrown around every now and then here at work from my grandfather. He was from 1930's Alabama, and my cousins tell me to overlook it sometimes, but I still can't stand it.
I've always hated people who are prejudice, racist, etc. I've been around it for a long time, and I hate it.
I guess you could almost say I grew up around racists, but I'm definitely not one. I choose to distance myself from it. I was even over at a friend's house helping him put in his motor in his Civic, and his pants were falling down a little. This girl, who was over there with another guy said, "Pull up your pants, white boy." I almost screamed at her!! I left just a little after that.
Anyway, I just can't fucking stand when people say stuff like that.

I dont understand why people have to be so fuckin shady anymore. I really don't care what color you are. If I don't like you than obviously there's a reason. Where i'm from there was only 2 black families as well. Hers' being one of them. It was a country/farm town. They had been there for quite sometime as well. They were accustomed to life there. Yep sure could, but if it is directed towards me, then it becomes a problem not only for me, but for them as well. I never directed any of my comments towards a certain person. I made a generalized statement saying that some white people are racist, not all. That is a well known fact. People that feel that was directed towards them, have the personal issues because it could very well be their conscious getting to them. They are reading more into it than needed. They see what they want and run with it.
