ok layed 3 coats of clear then the 'mist coat' that was recommended..looks like how it started..ha

when you rub ur hand over it,it still sounds like rough panel..sandpaper..but not AS bad..

try putting more clear down, it looks like you are just not putting enough down for it to level out. also, how much CFM does your compressor put out. If its not enough then it will just sputter the clear and not atomize it correctly. Most HVLP's require atleast 7-8 CFM usually more. My DeVillebliss uses over 10 when i turn it up. Also check your pressure drop when you are spraying. If you set the regulator at 25 you may only have 18 at full depression.

    Hope this helps

im using a Brut 10gallon 2.5hp compressor, its 125psi max..
    90psi 5.1...and 40psi at 4.1 (what it says on tank.lol)

and have the gun all the way open 50max,,then running the reg.and gauge reads 25psi.then 40 when i was doing clear.

turn your pressure down a bit, most HVLP's max out at 35. so i would try 30 especially if you have it all the way open. You may want to shoot a little less for the clear. I think you are just shooting too high of a pressure. If Bucky is close enough too you, you might want to pay him some gas money to come help you. I am further than he is. Or if you want to stop by the shop one day i can show you a few things. Some of the tips are hard to explain, and better to show in person.

ohhhh you misted the BASE coat ok ok. Yea thats normal to do with metallic base coats, if you dont have a special tip on your spray gun for metallics.

its the same gun my uncle sprayed his pearl white beretta with along time ago...1.4mm tip..

yea, usually painters spray metallics/pearls with 1.3.
and a lot of profession spray guns (anest Iwata/SATA) all have special air caps for metallics.

Yea take a bucket of water, a grey scotch pad and do it while it is wet. And if you want get some PPG scuffing paste too, to quicken the process. and then wash the car down with some dish washing soap, let it dry tape off and re-clear if you didn't go through the base.

BUt from looking at that texture, it looks as if you can feel it too. If so you might want to wet sand with 1k and then spray the clear. Don't bear down too hard and go through the base either, because I'm assuming your running low on the blue.

Some will tell you to just scotch pad it, but the texture will still be there, and when you re-clear it you wont feel it but the clear will maginify the texture so it will look as if it is orange-peeled/dry sprayed.

    Good luck.

ya i have little less than half a quart on blue now..since iv reprayed both sides 2times now..

i didnt put clear on my passenger side the other night,so what should i do about that? and it has high texture..

  26. #26

    Default

I have room to sand down the drivers side since i put 3coats of that duplicolor clear on..but the other night when i tryed to reduce the texture it didnt work,so i got pissed and put everything away and never cleared it..

It should be fine, but without clear coat the base will be more prone to chips and scratches.

Before you reclear that fender, make sure you wet sand with 1k before you reclear.

Bring your gun to me, and i'll set it for you, i don't think the gun is set up correctly if your getting that much texture.

RUN SOM REDUCER THROUGH YOUR GUN WITH OUT ANY AIR HOSE AND SE IF IT COMES OUT IN A STEADY STREAM. IF NOT A STRAIGHT STREAM THEN GUN IS CLOGGED. SRRY BOUT CAPS. also b sure theres no moisture in the air when doing base and you can wait between coats. now the clear can b done anytime after base is layed down and do a light coat then a medium then a kinda heavy coat on the paint and clear. but on clear wait between coats till you can touch an oversprayed area and touch finger and thumb 2 gether and laeve a sticky trail kinda like bubble gum from the 2 fingers and then within a cpl mins start next coat. then let set all night and about 12 or so hours later water sand with 1000 grit. this is colorsanding. then get some 3m extra cut buffing compound and a godd multispeed buffer and buff till no sand scratches are visible. this takes the longest but must be done within 24 hrs. then if the paint hazes later buff untill paint no longer hazes.

well its poor boy text book but hey if he knew how any real painter would figure out you get what you pay for in this business, and we all have to cut them corners sometimes.

hey dude, play around with your air settings on the gun, it seems like its not atomizing correctly, and also, what kind of reducer are you using? i got some clear and reducer that i will sell you if you want that i got left over from my paint job when i was spraying at the spray glo. send me a pm if you want some more help, ill be in suwanee this weekend if you want me to come over and help you. also, what gun are you spraying with?

Ya i tyred differnt settings each coat.ha
But no thanks i have almost the full gallon left, and most of the activator.it looks alot better out in the sun.metallic shows really well. i just have to buff it to slick it out now.
This mainly was a CHEAP spray to have 1 color car instead of silver doors.so i pretty much got what i needed out of it.
