Depends if you plan on working for someone... or working for yourself. I made about 14/hr @ 18 when I worked for the contractor of IBM, then I made between 23-26 an hour with 45-50 hour weeks @ 19-21.
Neither I would consider "great" money, especially not the former but the experience you gain can sometimes counteract the lower pay.

Main advice I can give you, is don't listen to what a bunch of people on the internet have to say about it. Especially if they haven't been there and done that for themselves.

14/hr when you were 18 years old. Holy shit, I didn't think that was possible. You make 26ish an hour now?

Got it. But I don't get how that much can be made, without a degree plus certs, i thought the certs were only important alone with a degree. What are the hours like to bring in that kind of cash?!!!!! My mouth dropped when I got those numbers in a PM more like HOLY SHIT.

My fiance has a IT Degree, and minor in management. He sure as hell doesn't make that kind of numbers you pmed me, where can he sign up? haha
P.S didn't return PM. Bc my control panel doesn't work, didn't wanna risk typing all this and have it not work.

My older brother is an IT manager and with out a degree or a hell of a lot of experience in the field or you aren't going to be making great money as an IT person. Its just like anything you have to start at the bottom and work your way up! You want to ask a real IT person questions... Ask Admin(Paul) he will tell you anything and everything you need to know and he is a IT manager.

    P.S. Sorry to thread jack!

I am in the IT field and have been for over 3 years with the same company. I am still in school along with this job and I have no degrees to offer right now and I make those #'s. I'm 21 and it is definitely possible as long as you are with the right company and you have the right credentials. A degree won't take you as far as knowing the right people

However after doing a background check they noticed two misdemeanors over the past 4 years and immediately withdrew their offer.

Is this common practice with companies nowadays? I hope not because I am seriously freaked out at the moment and a bit skeptical of even applying to other companies due to this. It had never been a problem in the past for me but then again I had never applied at a big company or attempted to get that kind of pay either.

My charges were battery for an altercation with an ex GF in which she was charged also, and a disorderly conduct charge from 3 years ago where I refused to speak to an officer about a something that I had no knowledge of but allegedly my friends were involved in.
Now why would you leave a full time+ job making $23-26/hr to go to a temp. job making $23?

LOL. You definitely dig some digging for that one! That post was the "turning point" in my life... which lead me to what I am currently doing now. As far as why I left a higher paying job... they moved to Norcross and I did not feel like moving with them.
