I am 21 years of age and felt very fortunate as of yesterday... as King and Spalding... a worldwide lawfirm offered me a position making 23$ an hour. I was going to be hired on through a temp agency and if everything worked out I would have went permanent. However after doing a background check they noticed two misdemeanors over the past 4 years and immediately withdrew their offer.

Is this common practice with companies nowadays? I hope not because I am seriously freaked out at the moment and a bit skeptical of even applying to other companies due to this. It had never been a problem in the past for me but then again I had never applied at a big company or attempted to get that kind of pay either.

My charges were battery for an altercation with an ex GF in which she was charged also, and a disorderly conduct charge from 3 years ago where I refused to speak to an officer about a something that I had no knowledge of but allegedly my friends were involved in.

Now why would you leave a full time+ job making $23-26/hr to go to a temp. job making $23?

funny since i thought the only place you could get a job WITHOUT a high diploma was a fast food joint.

I've had a GED
*not that it matters, but I was a 99th percentile scorer... ceremony , honors and all that bullshit*
since I was 16, and my A+ was my first cert obtained at 17.

As I said, I worked for a direct contractor of IBM. IBM outsources so much of their work its almost ridiculous.

I have a degree in TCOM, which I don't use, but you will NOT make that kind of money anymore. Back in the day, MCSE, A+, and things like that, used to mean a lot more, but now they mean dick. People want degrees, and if you can't produce that, you're gonna be bottom feeding for awhile. Those certs mean even less when you have less than 5yrs experience to go along with them. Like I said, outsourcing pretty much put the nail in the coffin on that one. It killed the market for college graduates in this country too.

With no experience? You can expect a 35k/yr starting salary. If you have 5yrs+, then you can get more. How MUCH more depends on the company, and what kind of work they'll be having you do. The market for this stuff has really fallen out, and I pretty much saw that happening when I graduated, so I took a different route and didn't even do anything IT related. I'm MUCH better off now because of that decision, lol, so it was a good one for me to make. However, if you're set on being in that field, then that's what I would expect to start out at. It can vary a little bit, but with people that can do it for LESS money, have MORE experience, and MORE education (college degree's), you're resume becomes not as attractive as the next guy.
