i use my kit lens the most - 24-105L IS.

    http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/s...hp?product=294

I have not heard very good things about the 70-300 honestly, although I have never used it. When I had my rebel I had the 55-250, and it was pretty nice, but still not the greatest.

honestly for the price of a new 70-300 i would rather have the 70-200f/4L non-is. way better glass.

What are you planning to shoot or do you just want a daily walk around lens?

You have much learning to do. Don't spend a lot of money on lenses before you know what you want/need.

If you absolutely *must* buy a lens then get either of the following first:

    • 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS (best budget telephoto lens ever, $250 new, $150-$200 used)
    • 50mm f/1.8 fixed (cheapest lens Canon makes, $95 new, ~$60 used)

Once you figure out the limitations of your kit lens, then you'll make a better decision as to what to get next (like maybe a flash instead of a lens).

    As for what I use/have.

    I USE:
    • Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 (most used lens)
    • Canon 85mm f/1.8 (2nd most used lens)
    • Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
    • Canon 50mm f/1.8 (doesn't get used as much

I also have (but no longer use)
    • Tamron 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6 (its just ok. My other lenses that cover that range are better, so this one just sits)
    • Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (kit lens. Decent, but I wanted something faster and sharper for a walk-around lens)

Lol, here is the cheapest 75-300 I have ever seen. This is not my lens, and I don't know this guy.... found it while browsing so, caveat emptor!

"Cannon" must be some knock-off of the Canon brand. Lol.

If you've ever used one you'll know how slowwwww they are. There are several different versions/generations of that lens too. For a beginner lens to throw in the back it would be ok.

My walkaround lens is my 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Yes, it's expensive and heavy but I bought it because of how versatile it is and it's just a really good lens. I can carry that one lens in my bag for weeks and never have to worry about it. I'll keep it for years and years so I see it as a great investment.

I took one of my kit lenses on a trip recently because it's small and light and haaaaated it.

It's so hard to go back to inferior glass! It's not worth the weight savings

    I daily a 50mm f/1.8 and a 300mm f/4.0...I don't recommend this combo lol! I really really really want the 200mm f/2.0. If I sell my 300mm and a car I can get it!

    I'm trying to convince myself that I really need a 70-200 f/2.8

I don't... and I would hate walking around with something that big & huge... but coupled with my other lenses, it would give me f/2.8 or under from 17mm-200mm focal length.

the 70-200 is incredibly better. if its the f/4 which im sure it is for 600, then it's f/4 all the way through.

IS is a luxury if you can afford it, and worth the money if you can.

    edit:

fyi the 70-200 brand new is 600 bucks on most websites.

If you only have the kit lens, then the 70-200 will blow your mind. HOWEVER, you should realize that unless you are looking for a very high-end lens, you'll be better served by the Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 which is:
    -Much smaller
    -Much lighter
    -Also has IS
-Less than half the price ($250 new)
-Only 1 f-stop slower at the far end.
-Has a wider zoom range (20mm on both the wide and tele ends)

Its not a bad purchase, but it might be way more than you need. If you don't already know that you need a 70-200mm L lens then you might want to opt for the 55-250mm and a flash, which will cost you the same amount of money (probably $50 less, actually)

yes since you're only using the "Kit" lens at the moment I would def. recommend the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 (Nifty Fifty) Great lens (even though it's no an L series)

Also look into Tamron and Sigma Lenses to cut down on price a bit w/ out losing some of the quality

Depends on what I am shooting but generally the 70-200 F2.8L IS and at times 24-70 F2.8L
