You have much learning to do. Don't spend a lot of money on lenses before you know what you want/need.
If you absolutely *must* buy a lens then get either of the following first:
• 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS (best budget telephoto lens ever, $250 new, $150-$200 used)
• 50mm f/1.8 fixed (cheapest lens Canon makes, $95 new, ~$60 used)
Once you figure out the limitations of your kit lens, then you'll make a better decision as to what to get next (like maybe a flash instead of a lens).
As for what I use/have.
I USE:
• Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 (most used lens)
• Canon 85mm f/1.8 (2nd most used lens)
• Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
• Canon 50mm f/1.8 (doesn't get used as much
I also have (but no longer use)
• Tamron 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6 (its just ok. My other lenses that cover that range are better, so this one just sits)
• Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (kit lens. Decent, but I wanted something faster and sharper for a walk-around lens)
