yes since you're only using the "Kit" lens at the moment I would def. recommend the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 (Nifty Fifty) Great lens (even though it's no an L series)

Also look into Tamron and Sigma Lenses to cut down on price a bit w/ out losing some of the quality
