Its only a bad idea to the lazy ass mother****ers in this country who think that it's the governments responsibility to pay their bills.
It's called the fair tax for a reason. It's the only fair way to do it. It's not like the fair tax is only going to help out the rich. It will help out everyone who makes more than $32,550 a year. At $32,550-$78,860 you pay 25% in income tax. The fair tax suggests that a flat rate tax of 23% will be imposed on everyone. Even if you make $33k a year, you will save 2% in taxes.
The only people who would not benefit would be those people who don't make any money. Chances are that if you have a full time job making decent money, you are going to make $33k a year. Hell, I would be fine with leaving the tax levels the same for everyone in the bottom two tax brackets ($8k or less=10%, $8k-$32k=15%), and leveling it out for the rest of the tax brackets. I could also agree with leaving it a little higher for those who make $500k a year or more, but not 35% like it is now. Maybe something closer to the 23%, like 27.5%.

what about the fairtax is not a good idea when compared with the current tax system.
I will be the first to say there are portions of the fairtax I hate, such as the fact that gas will cost 23% more than it does now. On the other hand, the average person will be bringing home 25% or more a year than they do now. More importantly the fact that the influx of corporate jobs will bring in alot more money by means of new, high paying jobs.
