My mom was the first "black" to work in a bank in Gainesville, Ga. She still has the newspaper with her face in it. The only 2 other blacks that were allowed to work there was the owners driver and the cook. Ever since that day, she was always the token black lady in the workplace. She was Personel Manager at Mead Corp until she retired a few years back. She always told me to never accept defeat and blame no one for a short coming.

Kids (teens and adults) today need to understand that the past should be motivation to do better. Racial slurs are used by those that hate themselves. Whether they be rich and successful, or poor and lonely......they still hate themselves. That goes for black and white, brown and yellow, blue and green (just covering all bases).

Well, lets see, this very thread may be making a point, but at the same time it is getting those who do like to "joke" or even be serious about it pissed off. Have you ever heard the phrase "out of sight, out of mind?" I do believe that this is one of those issues that if you just leave it alone, it'll disappear.

My next question. What exactly do you plan on doing about the racial remarks anyway? Are you going to try and have everyone who uses them banned? Do you plan on flaming everyone you see who uses a racial statement? Yes, you are making a start by never using the N word again. No one will really notice unless you point it out. A change for the good is no fun. Notice the news? How long does good news last? Just long enough to get it out. How long do you see news about something bad happened? It drags on forever it seems. So, you are just like the media, bringing attention to something, and making a bigger deal of it than it really is.

Sammich, Due to my lil sis being half black, we got thrown out of my moms side of the family by my 90 year old great grand mother. We werent allowed at family outings, christmas, or anything. I understand racism better than most here. However, You start by avoiding the N word. Ok, you just gave it more power. I get gay jokes all the time due to driving a miata. If I fought it more, I would jsut get more jokes. The key to anything of this sort is to not give the said problem more power and to keep going on through the day not letting it bother you. I understand what has gone on in this country in the last 150 years, but I think its time to let this shit go. I know all minorities were and have been persecuted and faced discrimiation, but A. Slavery stopped with your great grandparents and by continuing to bring it up, you just give it more and more power. The number one group empowering racism and discrimination is the same group that recieves it.
