My buddy wants to cheap out on getting this repaired. He got a quote for 200 bucks. I think the guy is going to make a couple of holes, pull the dent, and repaint.
Short of a full replacement, is there any other way?

200 is cheap to fix that.
I hear if you use dry ice on it, the dent shrinks.
Dry Ice will condense metal and thereby shrink small dents on your car. Place the Dry Ice on the inside of the dent if possible. Use heavy gloves and press flat sheet against dent. If it is not possible to get on the inside concave part of the dent, then using heavy gloves hold the Dry Ice so a corner can fit into the bottom lowest part of the cratered dent. Hold the Dry Ice until the metal is frosted at least 2 inches beyond the dent. Let the metal warm up (in the sun is the best) and repeat the procedure. Sometimes the dent will pop out perfectly. More often it will not be possible to get a flat smooth finish, but the dent will be reduced noticeably. Creased metal will still show the crease line but the dent will be far less pronounced. I have not seen any paint damage, but I'm sure if the paint is not strongly adhered, it could peel away.
dry ice wont do shit for that dent LOL
DO NOT DRILL HOLES IN IT TO PULL THE DENT OUT UNLESS THEY ARE GOING TO WELD THE HOLES BACK SHUT!!!
That is how they used to do it back in the day, but eventually it will come back to haunt him. The best way if to get a dent puller that welds a pin to it, then use a dent puller on it, cut the pin off, grind it down smooth, and then go from there with a thin layer of body filler.
Also, when removing a dent, try to picture how the dent happened, meaning what parts when in first, and try to pull it out completely backwards to how it dented. (in other words, if you were watching it on tv, do it the same way it would happen if you were to watch in reverse).
Just my .02 that I have learned...
Back to being stock and slow
Have you tried dry ice on your quarterOriginally Posted by Benefit

Thanks for the input guys, I'll pass on the info. Appreciate it!
Wish I was still livin down there lol. To me, thats about a 100 dollar job, minus parts. I'd just cut it out and make a filler piece weld it in, grind/sand, lay filler smoooooooooooth, prime and tell him to get the deck lid painted lol
dent puller lol
new deck lid. is that a ford taurus? lol
The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.
^^^ Just thinking that. Shouldn't cost much to just get a whole decklid.

i know this is probably old,
but you could pull that dent out mostly with the hotglue and 2X4 trick.
1.you gob hot glue on the end of a 2X4
2.quickly attach it to the center of the dent (like someone was saying previously about denting in reverse)
3.??????
4.Profit.
no really attach the glued up end to the canter of the dent while the glue us still good and goopey
hold it still and steady while the hotglue hardens for like 40 seconds or so
then yank the 2X4 as hard as you possibly can away from the canter of the dent
(like denting in reverse)
the dent should mostly pop out, possibly leaving some hot glue, maybe removing alil paint if the paint is crappy.
Ive done this before on a motorcycle tank that had a gnarly multi centered dent
it removed 93% of the dent id say.
try it. its like 10 bucks for a hotglue gun from wally world and like a dollar for some random wood from home depot, maybe even free if you can find a log or peice of wood or even a baseball bat.
go to the junk yard and see if they a spare in the same color
Good Gawd that's atrocious lol as far as Paintless Dent Removal is concernedOriginally Posted by Atlblkz06
lol the paint would crack when trying to flex it back up.
