Thread: **Slow_Hatch** EF Build Thread (56Kill you)

Default **Slow_Hatch** EF Build Thread (56Kill you)

Slow_Hatch build thread: I'll update as progress continues
Well in light on an upcoming trackday I signed up for, I decided it was time for some changes/maintenance and upgrades to the Slow EF. Not so much to the motor(although that is next on the list) but more to the handling department. So I searched for a good bit then came up with a list of sh!t that needed to be addressed on the car. The main things were the suspension, bushings, and the tranny w/ a few other little things too. I've pretty much got everything I need, but some has still yet to arrive. Now for some build....

Here is my work area, lol. The car is pretty torn apart now. I've already got the tranny out and gone, whole front suspension is out, and some of the rear as well

    Where's the tranny

    Suspension, or lack there of..

My work counter, enhabited by extra LS head, etc, and a majority of other parts, lol

And the spare LS block(coming soon.....)

The front suspension pieces cleaned of ready to be striped of their old tired bushings, and replaced with new healthy ones

And here is something I purchased to help with that

Which turned out to be joke. You get what you pay for. I'll be returning it, and getting the oxy torches from work tomorrow

So....I've started doing some of the bushings in the LCA which I thought would be halfway easy, boy was I wrong. These things are a major PITA. I bought the press, put it together in like 10min, then spent the next 1 & 1/2 only to get one of the smaller ones out. So needless to say ill be torching the rest.

Here are some more of things to come
Got my hubs/spindles redone. New wheel bearings, studs, and lower ball joints

Ported w/ larger wastegate flapper 14b

    Civic master set

    Rear Trailing arm bushings

And my method of removing them (BTW I will rent this tool out if you need it)

and finally some real shocks(compared to my old stockers) Ground Controls should be here in the next day or two

Oh and some new wheels and tires

Alight, will do. Heck, once I get it all put back together you're more than welcome to ride in it. I ordered 500lb fronts & 600lbs rear, so I doubt it will be very comfortable though

The suspension bits should make that car firm but not really uncomfortable. As long as the springs and dampers are fairly well matched, should be (kinda) smooth sailing.

Looks like it'll be a bit more fun to drive when you're done.

Are you using the rear shock bolts? I need ef ones, as mine were too short, and I had to buy some at lowes lol, and they are too long. Also how did your old coils ride in your ef ( I never rode in it), the rears are pimp in my car, but the fronts are beginning to be murder lol.

Al;so be careful heard on my forum, anything over 450 might require revalving with the konis, and low ride height might require them to be shortened too.

    Baby Snail (14B) FTL!

But very nice wheel/tire choice along with suspesion. After you get the turbo setup running I want to talk to you about what radiator (+/- stock or aftermarket x-member) you're using because of the whole clearance deal.

Hopefully I'll be experiencing boost soon!

Looks like everything is coming together good. LMK if you need some help with the car. If you really want this thing to handle, this is the seat to use (run by all the top national level cars)

This is the full build on my car. I might have left some thing out but this is pretty much it.

    Engine

    ·AEM Warm Air Intake
    ·DC Sports 4-2-1 Header
    · Custom stainless 2.25” exhaust, Magnaflow 14” muffler, dumps by passenger rear wheel
    ·high flow cat
    ·Orthodox Underdrive Crank Pulley
    ·Tiny 10lb-ish battery
    ·No AC
·Redshift ECU with 7600RPM rev limit
    ·Front/Rear ES Mount Inserts

    Suspension
    · GC/Koni SPSS Race Valved/Shortened Shocks with Eibach springs (will PM you with spring rate)
    · CRX HF Front sway bar with poly endlinks
·All Energy Suspension Black Poly bushings throughout whole car
    ·Ingalls rear camber arms
·Hawk HPS Front pads/ Hawk Blues for track
    ·ATE Superblue Fluid
·Progress Rear 24mm Infinitely adjustable sway bar. Not the three holes like the ST – it’s a slot. I’ve actually lengthened the slot to make the bar stiffer than what comes from Progress.
·GPO3 Red Glastic rear sway bar pillowblock mounts.
·15x7.5 Rota Slipstreams 40mm offset front wheels with Bridgestones RE-01R's
·15x7 Enkei RPF1 35mm offset rear wheels with Bridgestones RE-01R's

    Interior
·Honda factory radio block off plate
·Corbeau Forza on stock sliders – meets 25lb rule but its damn close.
·Mount for DL1/DL90 just below emergency brake
    ·MOMO steering wheel.

They rode fine in my car. Are you bottoming anything out?? After talking to a couple places(including Koni) 500lbs is the supposed limit, but it depends on the car. I've seen a couple guys running 600s on OTS yellows, and I plan on getting them revalved eventually. The car will not be low enough to need shortening, but I did get the GC tophats for some extra shock travel in the front.

I'm boosted already. That 14b is a spare/upgrade. It's ported & has a larger wastegate flapper to help with boost creap. Oh and don't be doggin the 14b is a great turbo, and it does exactly what I am building this car for. :burnout

Definatly I got pretty comfortable with my last setup. It wasn't going to be suited for the track though. I'll hopefully have a little bit of time to try this out before then. I'll start slow and get use to it again.

cool man. about the koni thing, dont run anything stiffer than a 500 b.c it will kill them shock. revalving must be done if any higher. ALSO, dont EVER run them full stiff because that will kill them to.

If you want, i can send u the settings i have on my suspension for a starting place...top secret

Yeah man the rears are ok but the front coils are bottoming out like crazy, after looking at the shocks I know why. I have maybe 1/4 of an inch of shock travel....so pretty much im just riding on the spring in front....I dont know what to do lol, besides do a tophat mod,.

Youre gonna have to find a shorter shock from another car that will bolt into yours on teh front

    UPDATE 2/14
Got off half way early yesterday, so i decided to make some more progress.
So I whipped this out, to torch out some bushings

After torching the centers out, i used this to get the outer metal sleeves out

Heres the LCAs with the bushings/sleeves removed

So now that i got everything out, i decided to to repaint them. But first a little bead blasting.(Bottom-before, Top-after)

    Getting some paint on

    Almost there

But them my camera died so thats all the pictures i got. I got pretty much all the bushings/sleeves out of all the front suspension, and a good amount of stuff bead blasted and ready for some paint. Hopefully i get some more done this weekend sometime.
