Well I am planning on getting some 10.8 or 11.1 compression pistons made and I was wondering if I should change the bore on it? My stock bore is 75 and my stroke is 94.4, what do you guys think?

I am not sure what the level of tolerance for boring the D17 has. I know that my B16 can only take an overbore of about 1mm at the very max on a stock sleeve. I would not really want to take it to that even. I'm sure someone can give you a tip on the 7th gen's capabilities to take an overbore. I would say doing a .030 over bore would be good b/c you can have the bore trued back up and honed which will take out any imperfections and make complete ring seal much more likely.

yea I was thinking of a .025 overbore and going with the 10.8:1 compression, because I do not have to keep in mind that I am working with stock sleeves

D17s have a hell of a stroke, thats huge.

tiny little bore though, i would keep stock bore, most likely if the cross hatches are still present, just drop the pistons in.

Im curious, why build the D17, there isnt anything available for it in terms of camshaft, valvesprings, etc.

i think it would be cheaper to just do a K20A3 motor

I did the math, if I put in a 10.8: 1 with a .5 overbore and build up the engine I will get some real decent gains, someone has done the build without the higher compression pistons and he is putting out 180whp (give or take 10-20whp), and a proper k20 swap will run about 2-3 grand more. it is all about budget. O and there is camshafts, and the full valve spring and retainer upgrades available, you can get up to stage 3 cams, but I am getting stage 2. Pretty much everything is offered for the D17A2 (civic EX) now. Also everyone is doing the K20 swap, I am not that big of a fan of it. paying 4 grand for 160hp, and still I would have to build on that, or for the RSX-s motor that is even more. it is not like I am looking for 300HP, just to max out my current motor, and put alot of people to shame when I show the dyno chart.

give or take he was approaching it, but he was not finished yet, many people put it down, but it's only real draw back is the intake manifold

oh we know how camshafts work. still, the TRICKEST y8 motor i have ever seen NA made like 187whp, and it was not streetable, and it was a 10K$ motor.

i have a HARD time beleiving with just pistons, and cams and a intake manifold your oging to gain roughly 50whp

well we will see, i am not trying to prove anything to any one of you guys, because non of you guys are helping me build this thing. I just want to do some stuff to my motor, and whatever I get will be fine with me. I appreciate the input about the pistons though.

we arent talking shit, take it from people that have built motors and who have alot more knowledge it seems.

We are just trying to let you know dont expect 180whp when in reality youll be lucky to make 150whp. get the most for your money.

link me to the thread where the guy is close to 18-whp, id be interested to see it.

    good luck

I am not saying that you guys are talking shit, I know you guys know about the motors that you guys work on. The guy said it on 7th gen, and I cannot get on that site here at work. See will see what I do in the long run, I am just asking people's opinion on different things to see what is the response.

just look at his ^^^ sig, that should tell you alot. Not to mention we are probably one of the few, if not the only two, on here that has clay tested engines before. I fully respect anyone wanting to build up their own engines or at least do their own research, etc...but like vteckidd said, don't expect that big of a return on your investment, i don't see it happening.

I think that is a wise decision if your goals are 180+! Good luck and keep everyone posted. If you are planning to use a shop talk to mainstream they have some very nice turbo kits that are very competitively priced.
