D17s have a hell of a stroke, thats huge.

tiny little bore though, i would keep stock bore, most likely if the cross hatches are still present, just drop the pistons in.

Im curious, why build the D17, there isnt anything available for it in terms of camshaft, valvesprings, etc.

i think it would be cheaper to just do a K20A3 motor

I did the math, if I put in a 10.8: 1 with a .5 overbore and build up the engine I will get some real decent gains, someone has done the build without the higher compression pistons and he is putting out 180whp (give or take 10-20whp), and a proper k20 swap will run about 2-3 grand more. it is all about budget. O and there is camshafts, and the full valve spring and retainer upgrades available, you can get up to stage 3 cams, but I am getting stage 2. Pretty much everything is offered for the D17A2 (civic EX) now. Also everyone is doing the K20 swap, I am not that big of a fan of it. paying 4 grand for 160hp, and still I would have to build on that, or for the RSX-s motor that is even more. it is not like I am looking for 300HP, just to max out my current motor, and put alot of people to shame when I show the dyno chart.

give or take he was approaching it, but he was not finished yet, many people put it down, but it's only real draw back is the intake manifold

naw, well the main thing is the Vtec, the D17 stock cams is what makes it a Vtec-E which is all about economy and not on speed. With more aggressive cams you change the whole outlook, many of the guys now after changing the cam settings, to make it a true vtec and work from there. They are also taking the intake manifolds from the D16Y8, which helps as well. There is alot that you can do with these engines, once you do your research, and realize that vtec mainly affects your cams, you make that more aggressive you start really changing the mind set of your engine.

I don't get it...you didn't know what ITB's were but you pulled all that out of a hat?
