I considered an h22, but I didn't want to sacrifice oil pan or hood clearance. Then I caught a great deal on a "knocking" b20 on IA for $100 (after taking it apart, it appeared perfected). So that begin my b20vtec "budget" build.

    bye bye ls head

    hello 84x89mm

Since this was a budget build I decided not to go forged everything. I used stock rods (with ARP hardware) and decide to bump the compression slightly with RS machine pistons. The purpose of this build is to make TORQUE since my b16 lacked it. So I slightly overbored the blocked over to 84.5mm

Since reliable was my goal, I wanted to help support the block more. So I added a properly installed (pressure in then machined) KMS block guard (please take the block guard debate some where else), properly installed KMS girdle (got the mains aligned honed), and ARP main studs for a GSR.

You can see some of the crap here

    The results were the following:

(Before I get asked who did my machine work, it was done by Larry Smith Automotive Machine Shop in Rome. Also a member on IA that works for a respectable performance shop in Atlanta assembled it for me. I'll leave his screenname out to prevent from getting his inbox flooded LOL)
