Question New Tires on 96 Civic 4dr

It's time for me to buy new tires for my 96 civic LX 4dr. I have always purchased the cheap douglas tires from walmart. 185/65/r14 is what I've been getting on my 14" rims. I am looking for opinions on maybe a more expensive type of tire or size. Naturally I'd like to have a wider tire that is gonna grab the ground better and stick, but I am getting these tires for 14 inch rims on a stock civic so what does anybody think or suggest? Shall I just keep buying what I have been getting or try something different and if I try something different what should the difference be?

Here's a picture of my car and the wheels the tires are going on if any one gives a sh*t...

stick with the cheap ones, your car doesnt have enough power to need more grip. If you buy different ones then chances are that you will get some with a softer compound that will wear faster and they will need replacing more frequently. If I were going to make any kind of tire upgrade for a slow car I would go for something that sticks to wet pavement and channels water better for obvious safety reasons.

a smaller sidewall will reduce tire roll and probably wont cost you anything extra if you just get them a little smaller. Do you know what the numbers on your tires mean?

Im not sure what kind of tire in that size would be best in wet conditions, Ive always had low profile high performance tires, so your best bet would be to ask the tire place what would be best for wet conditions in your budget.

lol, funny how my dad's 70hp 1956 356 Speedster would run circles around 300hp Vettes at Sebring and Daytona...with 6" slicks.

Profile doesn't matter in the rain, it's the width. A wider tire is more likely to hydoplane since it has more contact surface requiring to push more water out. That's why i laugh at off-road vehicles with big wide tires...light weight jeeps will just sit on top and spin but if they have a skinnier tire it will dig in and bite allowing traction.

if you go with toyo, the spectrum is a great all around tire. check into those.
