    Default Subaru Caveats?

OK, so my Honda is almost payed for, and I'm thinking about just parking it to tear apart and build...I found a WRX, non STI that I'm thinking of picking up and was just wondering what to look out for on them? The one I'm looking at is an '04, 5 speed, 58k miles. The mileage is a little higher than I would like, but it's a hell of a deal. I don't plan on doing too much to the car....just maybe bigger turbo, BOV, and I read something about modding stock injectors. So basically, what are the common problems with these things, and anything I should look for when I'm looking it over and driving it?

Ive had my 04 since 49k miles and I love every second of being ProTuned.

Some BOV's work better than others, but isnt needed unless you are running 23ish psi. The stocker starts to leak around that. Modding your injectors is okay as long as you have them flow tested. STI Pinks is a great alternative.

The thing that sucks about the 04 is, is that its slow until you get some form of Engine Management on it. Trust me , youll love your decision. Ive put around 20k hard miles on mine as Stage II and have had no issues. It runs better than the first day I bought her. Im about to upgrade my turbo as well.

Man I tell you what, at first I was looking at a Sedan and then decided on the wagon. Practicality wasnt even in consideration when I bought it either. There have been a lot of times I wouldnt have been able to deliver stuff or move things from one place to another without my car I drove my car 760 miles one way to Ohio, with 350 lb Front and Rear Leather Seats (sold them), a passenger, and all our luggage; comfortably and the car didnt feel that slow even with almost 600 lbs or extra weight.

Best mods to go with and cheapest to get power is a turbo back exhaust and EM. Those two alone can net you around 55HP and 60LBS TQ at the wheel.

Ha, I doubt the gas mileage is much worse than my EP, that thing sucks gas with the cams and injectors in it.

What if you want your scooby RWD? Is there any good way to go about doing it? It would be sweet to have a transfer case that you could engage/ disengage...

Some computers it doesn't work on...think you have to have the font installed but not 100% positive. I don't think it works on my laptop, or maybe it was my old computer at work...one of them it didn't work on

read something about modding stock injectors. So basically, what are the common problems with these things, and anything I should look for when I'm looking it over and driving it?
Great combo for a WRX. If you don't wanna go to big.

-VF34(JDM STi turbo) or VF39(USDM STI turbo)
-Upgraded Injectors( STi Pinks would be the best )
-Turboback exhaust( Down pipe / Catback )
-Upgraded Top mount( USDM STi top mount would be nice )
    -EM ( Ecutek or Cobb's AccessPORT )
    -ProTUNED

^ great combo, with those mods you should be at high 200's. You can get an intake if you want, just make sure you get tuned for it. Heard that the 04's were the most rich running ones. not a bad thing. And like i said, the only thing that fucks us up is our tranny. But you'll be getting a 2.0L one, so its torque isn't has strong as an 06's. lol. Maybe thats why ive already broken two of them. :p

Keep us updated if you do get it..

oh and this Wagon ricer knows what he's talking about too... V

Good looking out. I did find one FS that had STi turbo + inectors and accessport already installed, but I kind of want one that's somewhat unmolested. REPS for the info.

edit: must spread...I'll get you later.

Very nice thinking. If you see one thats modded, 80% of the time, it was either raced or abused. I'll post some pictures up to give you an idea on how n0ce they look.

Very good, don't make the mistake that Nitro made. (getting an auto LOL)

Black 04-05's are one of the best colors that go with it. To many blues around, if you wanna stand out look for a red one. Impreza's are ver nice cars, its not really a gas eater unless you drive like a "Maniac" everyday. Ive had my Rex for about two years now, and know how to drive it to save gas. I don't use the A/C even if its boiling outside. Our Intercooler and turbo are already working to there max on a hot day, don't need to put the motor to work harder then it already is you know.

An Impreza looking like that, on the street would get so much attention! lolol. that body kit doesn't belong in the streets.. But yes, thats a very sick looking one. Haven't seen a JGTC event with it racing though... or is it in another type of racing?

Super GT (aka JGTC but JGTC hasn't existed in years)

I would want it just like that minus ALL decals and vinyl. Just plain silver with the same wheels in graphite.

As far as the 04' the only thing you would have problems with from the factory, would be the hubs and the tranny. The 04' tranny is a lot stronger than the version before (02'-03')but it still isn't bullet proof like the current one. A lot of hard launches will kill it fairly easily.

first thing i would tell you to do is sell the stock tranny while you can (while it's still in 1 peice) and put that money toward a stronger tranny (RA isn't much better..it does break)...STi best bang for the buck. LOL Very true on gas...trust me your EP3 is way better on gas than a modded WRX.
