The misconception that a home is in an investments and the lack of understanding on the total cost of a home with the finance charges is so misunderstood its amazing. Few have the discipline to purchase a home they can own outright and even fewer have analyzed it to the point to recognize it's far better to purchase a lesser home initially and pay it off quickly. Indeed, the home suits our needs for now. "Needs" being the operative word. Wants will come later, after my 3 kids colleges are paid for and my retirement is fully funded. I don't need to show my ass to prove I'm better than anyone.

Because anyone can do what I've done. I'm not special. All it takes is patience and a smidgen of self-control.
