Greatest home or not owning it is "winning". The misconception that a home is in an investments and the lack of understanding on the total cost of a home with the finance charges is so misunderstood its amazing. Few have the discipline to purchase a home they can own outright and even fewer have analyzed it to the point to recognize it's far better to purchase a lesser home initially and pay it off quickly. The money saved on interest along along with allowing "real" equity to develope can have them truly owning a very nice home.

Indeed, the home suits our needs for now. "Needs" being the operative word. Wants will come later, after my 3 kids colleges are paid for and my retirement is fully funded. I don't need to show my ass to prove I'm better than anyone.

Because anyone can do what I've done. I'm not special. All it takes is patience and a smidgen of self-control.

I'd say grasping the concept of delayed gratification would make you at least a lil special. Denying yourself that is a bit unfair as nearly everyone is born with potential to do many things, it's just a matter of doing them that counts. IMHO it's far better to accomplish things with your desire as opposed to your "talent" or "potential".

Meh... I've led a blessed life. I've pissed away more money than I care to think about. It wasn't until I hit bottom that I decided I didn't like it there. Since that day, the money has come back (to a degree) but the thought pattern is now different. It brings a peace that cannot be put into words. Could I "afford" more toys now? Sure... To what end? Toys are nothing but that. If the economy were to hit a double dip/depression tomorrow, I'll be just fine.

How many people can truly say that?

When you love what you do, it ceases to be a job.
