Uh...negative. It'd take a LOT more than an intake and exhaust to keep up with a Vette. You put slicks on any car and it's gonna handle like crazy, but a Vette is good enough in the turns - stock - that it'd be able to stay ahead of a Miata around the track.Originally Posted by jesse4846

you think so? youre wrong. vettes are good in corners, but theres this little detail called weight. and miatas dont have any. have you ever seen a spec miata? all they have is intake, evhaust, suspension, and no interior. the cage makes up for most of the weight of the interior, so theres not a big advantage there. and they arent on slicks, they are only allowed to run on DOT approved tires, and thats only on a regional level. nationally they are only allowed to run on toyo RA-1s.Originally Posted by Lankhoss

A spec Miata is not faster around Road Atlanta than a Z06 - it just isn't, I have seen quite a few running up there mixed in with various other relatively slow cars, and the spec Miata seems to always be running quite a bit slower than the majority - for example, lightly modded Mini Cooper-S' were running faster lap times. I didn't make it that way, it's just the way it is. I'm sure they're great fun though, especially for the price.
For example, here's some video from Willow Springs of a spec Miata - terrible handling - extremely slow. Check 5:40 for a yellow Evo that walks by him - and a Z06 at ~8:00

First off, what we are talking about is a PERFECT lap, with no mistakes and pro times. What holds any "street car" back is the lack of predictability, lack of pads, lack of tires that can deal with the heat and the fact that if your running balls out your street tires are going to shred them up and your brakes would be done after 3 laps. Now with a instructor/pro driver its easy to do that perfect lap despite that, so if you lined them up this is what I think based on my experience....Originally Posted by 03CobraAV8R
So...coming from someone who has tooled around in both and has instructor friends with one or both...the Spec Miata on R comps would give the C6z a nice run for its money. What most of you will learn if you get in Motorsports is how little the straight line factor plays in your overall time. The Vette is slightly faster , but the Miata is easier to go flat out in and your going to have way more fun in it as long as you want. Even with the pads the brakes on the Z06 are inadequate for anything as long as a spec race. Also, I'd give the spec Miata the edge over the C5 but I would be suprised if it was more than a second. Dot Approved tires on a spec Miata can get you to 1:42-1:43 and you'd be running similar or slightly faster in a C6z for that single digit amount of laps you get in before the brakes and tires give ..but we're comparing a spec car to a stock car so thats pretty damn good I.M.O. for the Vette.
