    Default Minimum wage

I was just informed last night that minimum wage will be changing Jan. 1 from 5.50 to 7.25. Kinda scares me because that must mean that we are experiencing inflation. The prices of everything will increase dramatically and that 7.25 and hour won't seem much at all. Sounds like the U.S is fucked up to me

thats only a $3360 a year raise...before the taxes and shit...its not gonna be that signifigant. thank god its going up, i feel sometimes for the ppl that have to live off of that small amount.....but making an extra $1.75 is going to be barely noticeable...hell at that pay rate its still under $14,000/year. hurray for raising it.......boo for it not making a damn difference at all. i just glad i went to school and got me a good job

The only increase in minimum wage I have seen is going to happen in California. They will be going from 6.75 to 8.00/hr over the next two years.

Have you ever lived in Cali? 8.00/hr there is like 5.15/hr here. The cost of living in Cali is a lot higher than in GA.

2 things will happen, some minimum wage earners will lose their jobs because the manager can no longer afford to keep everyone on payroll or prices will inflate to offset the higher wages which puts you back where you started because now $8.00 an hour has the same buying power that $6.00 an hour once had. This exact subject is why you have to pay almost $8 for a happy meal where I grew up after they raised the minimum wage $2.

I don't for see it being a problem except for the companys who pay min wage to EE's... the biggest problem you will start to see is:

step 1) benefits will be cut in some fashion first to offset the new forced wages companies have to pay

step 2) cut jobs why pay 2 people when you can pay 1 to do 2 people's jobs

i highly doubt companies will just soak up the cost b/c gov't forces them to... it will in the end will fall back on their EE's.

it would work out to $70 more a week before taxes and other deductions you can look at losing about 30% of that shit through taxes and deductions....wow...a $49 dollar raise a week. that isnt noticeable in my opinion. for $49 i can almost fill up the gas tank on my truck. even when you make as little money as 5.15/hr that shit is not too noiceable.

im just glad it does not effect me..i make over $20 an hour so i am not worried about this minimum wage shit. its nice that it might get raised...and it does need to get raised. but i still beleive that its not gonna make a difference....unless of course you think $49 a week is good. i would not even miss $49 if it was taken from my check...i get raped anyways

Just more company cost. Stop drawing out these complex theories that lead to nothing. Just going to cost the company more so they will have to axe people. Nothing new.

They don't pay anymore for telemarketing/phone work. I remember those mindless days I use to work for Verizon Wireless...ahhhh.

Honestly I'm pissed at this money issue. Let's go back to barter system. Trade shiny rocks for shiny crack rocks.

have you seen any reports of this?
cause i cant find anything about the feds raising it or ga raising theirs

cause a $2 jump sounds unlikely

    heres something i found

The Republican leadership in the House has refused to allow a vote on a bill (H.R. 2429) that would increase the minimum wage to $7.25 per hour over two years. So working family advocates have signed a “discharge petition” that will force a vote on the bill—if a majority of representatives signs it

they were trying to do it over a 2 year period so it first off wouldnt go into effect jan 1st it would take a couple years of raising to get it there

but also not enough votes yet it seems

there is nothing goin into effect for the state of georgia or teh federal govt right now that is goin to raise min wage that i can find. john kerry propsed a raise to 7.15 for the fed govt but it has not been approved yet. there are other states taht are raising theres to $7+ but theirs werent as low as 515

you're right that's hardly noticable. but to a Company with(hypathetically) that employees 100 people that would be $7K. and guess who gets to pay for it. you and me the consumer. I don't think most people understand it. same thing with taxes. if the gov't raises the tax on a item does the company just say, "F it. we'll take th e hit."? no, they'lll raise the price to make up the loss. beside who here knows anyone that makes minimum wage? besides some kid in highschool working @ Arby's?
all raising the MW will do is make things that much more expensive for you and me.

i never said all of us wont feel the effect...but to the person that got the little raise..its not that noticeable.

i see exactly what you are saying...in fact i thought i was reading the fairtax book again when you typed that post.

ein the end though it wont matter if we pay for the raised minimum wage or if they pay for it. because the govt is always gonna do things that make money for them. fair tax will never happen, neither will fair pay. its always gonna be ass backwards because the govt can get ahead when its backwards....and we get behind

TOny, you are one of the few people on here i agree with on a regular basis.

Now, ask yourself this, am I extreme to say that min wage is somthing we shouldnt have? (food for thought)

And to the guy saying that a min wage raise wouldnt effect you because you make 15$ an hour. well first off, we didnt ask how much you make, thats personal information that shouldnt be thrown around with out thinking first. And its foolish to think just because you make 15$ an hour that a min wage increase of the said magnitude would not effect you.

    Good points Danny and Tony.

japan4racing, you're saying $50 won't make much of a difference? A free tank of gas per week wouldn't make a difference to someone barely making $5.15 an hour? You're sadly mistaken.

But again, in the end, it's only going to affect consumers and the uneducated.

People always complain about the rich, upper class people always having it easy when it comes to tax breaks, etc but the fact is the rich, upper class people are more educated when it comes to their money and they find ways to keep track of their money. I used to work in banking and I saw it all the time. The rich stay rich because they take the initiative to educate themselves on how things work. The poor and middle class stay where they are because they'd rather complain about the government and how unfair everything is.

But anyways, back to the topic at hand... all the minimum wagers need to go apply themselves. People choose to settle for $5.15 an hour. This is the land of opportunity for anyone that truely works for it.

    .
Truth! 50$ a week should make a difference at almost any pay level (with in reason). 50 x 52 = 2600$ per year. at the IRS rate of 45cents a mile you could drive your car almost 5800 aditional miles per year. Thats about 40% of the average miles a car is driven in one year. Thats HUGE in my book.

we are all consumers. thus effecting EVERYONE. (not saying Iloveboost disagrees)

'Poor' and 'Rich' are realitive terms that personally I try not to use. But, I understand what you mean with this statement. Its the democrats that are pushing for a more socialistic goverment and in the process claim the "rich" are not taxed enough. YET, the harder I work (and anyone else in this great country) the more taxes I have to pay, and when I say "more" I am refering to a higher precentage. So if you think about it, we are punished for working hard and striving for a bigger paycheck. Im sorry, but thats not right in any way, shape or form. This is the reason I vote "fair tax plan" and get rid of the IRS.

Im not extreme enough to say they are not applying themselfs. But i agree, the vast majority of people work at or around min wage are not giving 110% effort into "climbing the corprate latter." I still think min wage is unnecessary.

But you hit the nail on the head: "the land of opportunity"
"The 1911 is a collection of subsystems that must work together. Each part must be prepared and fit properly not only in and of itself, but also with regard to the other parts with which it must operate for the gun to function and appear as desired."

Which is why I say most people that are making minimum wage are not applying themselves fully.

When I say poor and rich people, I mean lower class and upper class.

Not always true........ Would sound better if you said : " In Most cases "

The fact is : When you are rich.. Is easier to become richer.. Now.... how hard is it for a Poor person to become rich? Not easy... Is all about the situation you are in or put in and of course hard work.

Anyways, back on topic.. Im all for the increase. 50 bucks a week is ALOT when you dont have it.. thats 200 bucks a month extra!!! More food on your table/ health insurance/ ALOT more can be done with that 200 bucks....

True. I exaggerated in stating everyone, but as you said, it would be safe to assume the vast majority of people.

Also, it is harder for the lower class people to get ahead financially, but all it takes is a will to work for it. Something a lot of lower and middle class America lacks.

Life is what you make of it, whether you're banking $5.15 an hour and loving life or deep in 6 figures and in debt up to your ears.

when you make $5.15/hr the extra 50 is nice im sure...but once you put it to work for you it still did not make you nay more take home cash. so now you can get some health insurance or some gas.......so now what...you make 7 something an hour and you are still broke as fuck.

i think alot of you missed the point i was making here...yes $50 a week is more than you had before but if you look at the big picture its not that much. thats $2400 take home extra in a year..a whole $7.14 a day...that huge raise netted you a #6 combo from hardees.

the point im trying to make is that even at $7.xx/hr no one can live off that shit..and giving someone an extra $2.00 raise at any income is not that big of a deal. hell this year alone i have gotten roughly $6.00/hr worth of raises....i dont hardly even notice that shit. maybe they should redo the tax system instead of rasing income.

yup. thats where this country is head. Becuase the majority of the people think taxing the upper class more and higher min wage is for the better. Democrats are pushing for this, they encourage people to be classified as middle class or below. This is what you are refering to as "leveling the playing field". Just glad im not the only one seeing it coming.

Huh? You went to left field with that one.. lol.

I agree with you.. But, what I was trying to say was :

When you already have money, is easier to make more..
When you are poor, is harder to make more money.

On another note.. paying close to 400 a week in taxes BLOWS. FAIR TAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
