Why didn't you just go over there and get the wheels?
There is only so much "being nice" you can play before you resolve issues. If after a year you realized that you were going to have issues, go over there, and get them.
What the car rolls on is not your problem. Something tells me that they could have found something to set the car on.
This may turn out to be an expensive mistake.
