Instead of the 2 wheel per side per axle set up on most semi trucks, I get to ride on SUPER SINGLES!!! One HUGE tire on the end of each axle.

Tire size? 445/50-22.5. Lolol.

i heard that those are actually pretty bad. not everybody has the chain size, shops may not carry them and if one blows there isnt a second tire to take the weight. but on the other hand, im seeing more and more trucks with them so they must be good somehow.

What are the main advantages of these??

Saving about 1,000 pounds of weight thus using less gas is one thing. Instead of having two steel wheels per position, you have only one aluminum wheel. There is also reduced friction with less sidewalls also increasing gas mileage. One more thing is that since they weigh less than dual tires, freight amount can be increased in the truck (since we have weight limitations we have to meet in each state).

There are pros and cons to almost everything. These tires haven't really been recommended for LTL as much as for regional or local hauling. Later, QD.

thats cool. the normal tire size's i deal with for large trucks/motorhomes are 245/70R/22.5 for the duals.

there's not really a whole lot wrong with super singles. if one blows, it can be emergency fixed with duals. when i worked for schneider, we had an issue with goodyear super singles though. there was a paper run where they were putting too much paper in the trailers. the singles were starting to crack on the sidewalls due to everyday bouncing while driving and being overloaded.
