You should avoid watching things for a long time with stationary things (i.e. network logos) for the first 200 or so hours to avoid burn-in, but after that, Plasma is much better. Better color saturation, and you can watch it from any angle. Look at a computer LCD screen from a large angle and you'll get what I'm talking about.

if u want th ebest of the best look at the sony XBR series lcd's. their in the black frame.
If ur gonna get a plasma try not to get any except a panasonic.
I like the lcd's alot better. You can view them from the same angles as plasma's. Their lighter, their less fragile. I also like how their screen doesnt have any reflections. Their also supposed to last longer.
best plasma = panasonic. 42" = 2500msrp
really good lcd compared to it sony kdl40s200 40" = 2500msrp.
not only that they are extremely fragile. have burn in issues. everyone puts out a TON of heat except for the panasonic. They use up quite alot of power and their screen surface gets reflections. If your looking for larger than 40-45" tho u gotta go with a plasma. There isnt enough lcd's to compete.
I want a 50 inch, I wanted to get the biggest tv I could find but after research I found out that in order to get optimal picture quality on anything bigger than 50 inches you had to sit like 15 feet away so Im gonna go with a 50+-2inches and Im gonna go with plasma, Ive heard that they can be recharged after the plasma runs out and they will be like new.
actually the recharging part is a myth. the good news is they become half as bright in about 25 years so you shouldnt really need it because most plasma's cept the panasonic should only last u about 5-6 years. panasonics being more
5-6 Years is a long time, I would end up getting a new one by then anyway so Im good.
and you are correct, plasma tv's run on a bulb/gas and after so many hours of watching it will eventually burn out and the suck part is that the TV will be trash because you can't replace that. Now LCD's on the other hand are just as good as long as it has HD technology.Originally Posted by BlkCD5
Samsung LCD's can't be beat. Stay with LCD and definitely look at Samsung's line!
my suggestion \/
TV = plasma
computer = LCD

wit the new technology plasma last longer now up 15 to 20 years.....i got one mysef i used to have a 50 inch philips but it was giving me problems (so dont get a philips)and i returned it to get 50 inch toshiba and i love it....the picture is great especialy the hd chanels.....in my opinion lcd's are better the picture is better, they last longer, they good in bright areas....the only thing i dont like about them is their expensive.......the best lcd's you can get is sharp aquos,sony bravias,panasonic are not bad either......stay away from the rest of them....or else u gonna waste your money.......theres a new technology called HDILA samsung is the first one coming out wit that technology on plasma...and the picture is rediculous.....its so fucking clear.....JVC makes them right now but its a rear projection big screen t.v. its so clear you guys should check it out......COSTCO WHOLESALE got the best price on t.v's......
the DILA chipset is complete SHIT btw. they burn out so fast. their last 3 gen chips have. DLP has also been very unreliable as well as its image no where near the quality of a good LCD projection setup like sony's. Hitachi Ultravision II tv's have an amazing picture quality but are not the most reliable of the bunch.
the best lcd to get is the sony XBR lineup but it only goes up to 40" so far. they just dropped the current series for a new one to be released soon which will be amazing. Sharp has a 65" lcd but its cheapst price so far has been just over 16k.
The entire new sony lineup of LCD and lcd based projections have amazing specs. response times from 2-5ms. release should be end of july.
Plasma's wont last 15-20 years. That is the half life of the brightness. Not true lifetime. Your plasma is probably going to last you around 5-8 years depending on brand. Also the contrast ratio's given on plasma's is also kind of false. Lcd's are rated on a much stricter set of regulations for contrast ratio so you dont see crazy high numbers. plasma's are not so they can say i have a 10k to one ratio.
I use to work at best buy and from what i know about TV's the LCD is a better television.............Plasma picture is a little better due to the fact that it uses gases to produce the picture which mean that the color is a little bit truer than LCD but in the long run LCD is a much better TV. The plasma has a problem with burn in and also it can develop a line in it if one of the light pixels goes out and its expensive to fix. LG and a couple of other companies are developing ways to reduce burn in and some have a feature where the tv will actually get hotter and turn white and take out the burnt in image...........but for long turm and wise investment go with LCD. Now if you haven't thought about rear projection you probably should samsungs rear projection TV comes with a DLP(digital light projection) chip that gives a better picture and you can look at the tv from any angle and if the light ever goes out or you just decide to change the light in the rear projection tv the DLP chip is so good that when you change the light the picture will be just as good as the day you bought it...because over time the light quality fades but thats with any tv. but LCD is better than plasma. Now a few years from now they are suppose to have some new technology thats goin to be basically perfect as far as the problems that you have with the plasma TV. if you do go with plasma look at the Pioneer TV they are new to the TV relm but boy the picture that i have seen on the 42" and greater TV is so spectacular...but this is just my opinion.
And no rear projection TV is goin to have the quality of a LCD or plasma.....and once again these are just my opinions so if you feel a different way coo.....just giving the lil bit that i know about televisions..so the you don't know alot or comebacks aren't necessary..
DLP's are that great honestly. the picture is better than most lcd projection tv's cept for the sony's. But you still cant see it from any angle. The best projection for side viewing is still a sony but its still nowhere near as good as a plasma or lcd.
dlp is nice for its bulb to be easily changed, and cheaper than the sony ones.
but yeah nearly every plasma has a way prevent burn in. it doesnt work 100% but it takes longer for this to happen. they all also have screen savers, basically a full white screen you gotta run for 8 hours or a shifting white to black screen but both do the same thing.
so my wife called me this morning and told me he bought me a 42 inch plasma screen, the xbox 360 will never look as good as its gonna look on that thing.
LIFE SIZE PORN! just stand in front of it.
Neither in my opinion... LCD - Pixel Burn Problems - Plasma Short Life Span
DLP - ALL DAY FTW!
Plasma tvs average about 5-6 years, thats plenty for a t.v. The way technology is advancing these days any T.V. will be outdated by then anyway.Originally Posted by Allshow97
