    Default Questions about AR-15s

I've tried doing some research on the topic and the information is very inconsistent. So I figure I ask on here to confirm some things.

    1) I'm 19, and I'm looking to build my first AR-15 however in Georgia it is legal to own one because it's considered a rifle correct?

    2) Do I need any sort of license?

    3) Since the lower is the only part on the gun that is considered a weapon do I have to go to a gun store to purchase the lower or can I get one online?

    4) If everything clears and I am able to legally own an AR-15 how do I go about transporting it to lets say a shooting range? Can I have it in the car?

Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

    1. It is legal as long as it remains semi-auto and your age is fine.

    2. Shouldn't

    3. Not sure on that one.

    4. Put it in a case and carry it in unloaded.

Thanks for the info. I have no plans to make the gun full auto. Does it have to be in the trunk/out in the open or anything special like that?

Better safe than sorry so just keep it in the trunk. It's not something you really want to carry around in your car out in the open anyways. Just remember your car is an extension of your home, and as long as you are cool with the cop and let him know it's in the vehicle if you get pulled over, shouldn't have any problems.

well first, a long gun is considered 18"+ and technically speaking there are NO LAWS against how you can carry a 16" AR15, whether that be in your car or in public. for a 18"+ you can carry it anywhere in your car, loaded or unloaded. in fact you can carry it in public concealed if unloaded and loaded if its not concealed. i wouldnt let them know you have it in your car if pulled over, it opens you up for harrassment and a pro longed stop while they stomp on your civil liberties and illegally run the serial number. the lower you can buy online, it just must be sent to an ffl dealer (gun shop).

Why would you give up your rights like that? Our founding fathers would roll in their graves if you do that

So what your saying is either way if the AR is 16" or 18"+ it can still be carried anywhere. Do I have to get the gun registered? How do they know I own the gun if the choose to run the serial? From what I've heard talking to other people I've heard getting pawn shops that have a ffl is the easiest/cheapest. Do you guys know of any places in particular you'd recommend?

GA does not have a registered law ....So no you do not...Now fully auto guns you have to register them and you give up all your rights..

    visit georgiapacking.org
    georgiacary.org for laws

you would not want to carry a AR into places but you can buy and carry in car and to home that is it....

But if you don't tell them it's in the car and they get a wild hair up their ass to search the vehicle and find it, they will create a shit storm. Any time I get pulled over, I hand them my licence and tell them there is a loaded gun on me.....they haven't questioned me yet. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Do what is told But if a cop asks me is there any drugs or weapons in the car I just say ( Officer there is nothing Illegal in my car) simple as that , you never just run out the mouth and tell and give up your rights unless you don't care what all of our founding fathers did for us.The officer can NOT search your car unless you give him that right. I will not give it up , Officer can wake that judge up and get a warrant and come to find out nothing is in my car that is illegal OH boy a lawsuit coming

DO SOME FUCKING RESEARCH DUMBASS. Learn the laws on your own. There are plenty of websites to learn from. Theres even a fucking sticky on gun law FAQ's. If you were remotely smart enough, you'd know that.

And yes you will need a Permit which is also a License to carry a Long gun in a holster and walk through wal mart ...You don't have to have a permit to have a long gun and being 19 but to carry it on you like a pistol you do have to have a permit

i was making fun of you calling it a georgia weapons license permit. its just georgia weapons license. quit saying permit. it is not a permit. just like you dont have a drivers license permit. and you dont need any holster for a long gun, not even a pistol for that matter. and no you do not need a gwl to carry it. can you not read the code section i posted??? i mean really man.

Not in GA you have to have a Permit to carry in GA open or CC ... But you are allowed to carry in your home, or car, or if you own your place of business you may carry without a permit.
I know but permit is what has been used way before you was born my friend. I have been carring longer then you have been alive , and we called it permit and after 20 years of so it is hard to say other wise .

id like you to show me the code where it says you need your gwl to carry a long gun. ive supplied my proof. and again most AR's are 16'' and completely unregulated. and dont go to gpdo to try and look up the code, it hasnt been updated.

ive carried over a dozen times no holster since it passed, and open carried while enjoying a beer at a few restaurants. its not about being a test dummy, its about following the law. i follow the law, and as a law abiding citizen shouldnt be scared to do something legal.

You will soon make a thread on GPDO about a Officer arresting you and seizing your gun and now you have to pay all these attorneys to stay out of jail to prove a point in the NEW LAW that most 90% of cops are unaware of . You first please

what is your deal old man? can you not read or just dont care to comprehend what im saying. I DO NOT WANT TO CARRY MY AR INTO WALMART. this guy asked about the law regarding them and you answered his question incorrectly. this is not a question about your opinion on if someone should carry a long gun in their daily business. im simply stating the law.

You will see most people that are long time permit holders for years and years still today don't tell or allow cops to know they are carrying just because of this problem. EVEN if it is a law saying I can carry a long gun anywhere without a permit do you think I will try it out or tell people that no nothing of the law that they can? NO why because I will not say you can but rather say no to prevent a problem in the future.

Legal as of now to carry long rifles sure, but do you have enough money to pay for loss wadges ,attorney fee's etc to prove a point in the law?

Not me , so til this day I never give up my rights and show ID and my weapon .Sorry But I will not give a un educated officer a chance of day to try and take my rights and give me a free ride.
