Its just funny how a thread gets made like this like every 5 years. These are the reasons why
1) The "scene" is no longer what it used to be. Its gotten bigger in some ways and much smaller in others.
2) Competition- It used to be if you had an import you went to Importatlanta or importlounge. Now, you have competing forums like WRXatlanta, EVOAtlanta, 240ATLANTA, EastcoastHonda, that have split the demograhpics up, and, the national sites have gotten bigger like ClubLexus, Honda-Tech, etc
3) Meets have become CLICKY- I dont know when it specifically happened, but at some point MEETS became less about hanging out and showing off a car you took pride in, and became SOLELY about pleasing others. The generation taking over the car world cares so much more about what the others think that they churn out cookie cutter, after cookie cutter, after cookie cutter car that just plain GETS BORING. I mean Chad recently couldnt find 1 honda in atlanta to shoot for a magazine. Not because there isnt a nice honda in atlanta, but because they all look the same. Or they think their daily driver is ok for a magazine because it has stock interior and CRAZY STANCE y0!
4) MONEY- Again, i dont know when it happened, but somewhere along the line the people replacing the OGs make far less money or just dont want to spend it. Go to any local meet, and truly look at the cars there. Garbage. I dont really care about your $500 wagovan with $800 +0 offset CCW knockoffs. Civics all look the same, 240s all look the same, no one has any real style anymore, and even less care about being fast. When did it become cool to just put some DOODOO wheels on your car and slam it for the least amount of money possible? My old roomate had a $3000 92 LS400, he puts the CHEAPEST coilovers he can find on it, with some REPLICA KNOCKOFF BMW wheels on it with the CHEAPEST CHINESE Tires he could find, and people actually said "WOW YOUR CAR IS COOL". What retard on this planet thinks that is COOL and justifies being a "car enthusiast". I dont know who i blame more, the kid building the car, or the kids too chicken shit to tell him hes a retard and STOP other kids from copying him.
5) HIGHSCHOOL MENTALITY- What we are witnessing is the changing of the guard really. Most people who were big into cars 10 years ago, are now in their mid to lower 30s (or 50s if your QD). They grow up, they have families , they have more money, they care about other things. I remember the epic battles and drama that would happen on here, but i just dont remember it being as childish as it is now. Certain people had clicks, or groups, but for the most part everyone got along. You had the SM and BG drama, i know george and i got into it a few times, me vs tank, TS vs BG etc, but , the majority all were cool with each other.
Somewhere that stopped. Now you have these niche groups that inbreed and shit talk everyone else, and when their own group out casts them, they become best friends with the opposing group like it never happened.......its like people lack a backbone. If i DONT LIKE SOMEONE, there is nothing that person can do to change my mind. I may decide to tolerate them, but ill never just flip a switch and change my mind and act like its all ok. That shows a lack of character. Guys and girls are guilty of this.
So, itll never be the same, because thats life. Shit changes. you cant MAKE people be more involved, you cant make people be less stupid. As i get older i learn that more and more, and i just decided it wasnt for me anymore. Sure i still drive an Acura, it has wheels, and exhaust, but thats where it stops. If you ever see me at a local meet, remind me to shoot myself in the head with my gun because i really just want no part of it.
I spend my time going to NFL games, NBA games, MLB Games, on vacation, or with my GF. Ive chosen that path because for me its better and i get more reward from it than i do from cars or the car scene or logging onto a forum.
I post here to argue about sports and politics when im bored, thats about as little interaction as im willing to have right now.
