Does drinking alcohol thin the blood?

No! Alcohol is a vasodilator. It causes the blood vessels to expand. This is particularly true for the tiny capillaries located just below the skin's surface. The normal thermostatic control of the body is altered by alcohol ingestion. The blood vessel dilation allows a greater amount of blood volume to be brought to the skin's surface. This facilitates heat loss and also explains why your face looks flushed when you have been drinking. But alcohol does not thin blood.

However, Ibuprofin (aka ADVIL) which tons of people take before tattoos DOES thin your blood.

I have tons of tats. I have always read and heard that you shouldn't drink. I actually did a Google search before I made the post to make sure someone else had heard it. I actually quoted a local shop in my post. Hopefully it's not true.

Alcohol CAN make you bleed more IF you are an alcoholic and have been drunk ALL DAY before you get your tattoo. A beer or two during the tattoo wont hurt anything.

Most tattoo places tell you that simply because they dont want you walking in drunk saying "OMG PUT SO&SO'S NAME ON MY ASS" and then being unhappy the day after -- not to mention, no one wants to tattoo a belligerant asshole.

Just want to add my tattoo guy was my "boyfriend". All of my tattoos were done at his house by him and not by someone who would worry about my drunken actions rather than how my tat turned out.

Kitchen Counter was an "Oh shit I didn't buy the Massage table I was going to" type of deal. I had a massage table lined up to buy that was gangster as hell. Portable with a 4" dense foam 72" x like 42". Shit was going to be gangster and then I realized that I don't make shit for pay at my work, I have rent due, bills due, child support due, and well I need gas money for two whole weeks lol.

Needless to say I am hoping to have something a bit more comfortable her next session that isn't in the kitchen. It shall be in the room i Dubbed the "future bedroom of alvin/tattoo room" lol

I've only tattood one person that was beligerant...but she insisted and this was when I first started. oh well we all make mistakes.


Usually a beer calms nerves or a shot so I let people have a shot or two or a beer or two. I mean look at the size of toxxxic and the size of her tattoo. She sat 3-3.5 hours of me starting and stopping because I am a chatter box. lol.


It was a very enjoyable tattoo. Next session is to finish up the black work. There was no color planned for the tattoo but maybe I can convince her to get a little bit of color in her.

Both Rach and D were very cool people. People I could hang out with outside of my profession
