if i had the money, my woman would get ANY ring she wants.. thats one of the most important pieces of jewlery she will EVER have.. she has to be proud enough with it to show it off, and every time she looks at it, would think of me..

Umm, no.Originally Posted by tsispyder
The Tacori that I am looking at is a platinum setting that runs in the $6000-7000 mark w/o out center stone. Add in another $10-12k for a 1.75-2ct diamond and it gets interesting for sure. Sure as hell not CZ for the center stone.

damn i better get a real job so i can buy my woman a pimp ring like those, when i get a woman that is.
I mean rings suck, car parts rule!!!!!
This thread reminds me of a comedian's take on the matter. I'll retell it to the best of my ability:
You know all those DeBeers diamond commercials? You know, the ones that say things like, 'Diamonds: Take her Breath Away!' and 'Diamonds: Make her Speechless!'
They really should just come out and say 'Diamonds: That Oughtta Shut Her Up.'
Mwahahaha.

You really need to look at most of those rings in person. The problem with all of that stuff around the ring is that it bends and twist the light so you cant fully appreciate the 10k you just spent on a diamond.
Also
Its amazing how much price varies for diamonds. If you buy a 1ct diamond with almost perfect Cut, Color and Clarity your looking at 10K for just the stone.
I highly recomend Soloman Brothers in Buckhead, Anthony really took care of me when I bought my girls ring.

Buy Moissanite instead. Physically indistinguishable from a diamond except via a couple of specialized pieces of equipment, twice the brilliance and refractive index as a diamond, and almost as hard (9.5 hardness index instead of 10). Even better, they're not naturally occuring on this planet!

That is just for display purposes, usually. The real rings won't come with CZ stones and will cost a lot more.Originally Posted by tsispyder

haha i actually tried a ring on at tiffany & co and it was a $200,000 engagement ring...like 5 carats and platinum I was like OMG!
You guys do realize that as far as precious stones go, diamonds are actually among the least rare, right?
Christ, $16,000 for a ring that should cost 1/5 of that. THANKS DEBEERS.

Everyone gets their diamonds from DeBeers, who currently has a worldwide monopoly on the diamond market.Originally Posted by tracy
The practices of some of these diamond mines is beyond the pale (you know, things like cutting off your foot if they catch you trying to smuggle out a stone, etc.)
DeBeers, being a monopoly, can set the price of a diamond to whatever they want, artificially restrict their availability, invent clever marketing schemes, whatever it takes to make it seem reasonable to pay $10,000 for a freaking rock.

Like I said.. if you want a really rare stone, get a ruby or something.
Or, if you want the next best thing (and in many ways better) to diamonds, buy a moissanite stone: www.moissanite.com
