west coast cities have plans for earthquakes and very rarely does the federal government get involved, and when they have, they haven't needed the large numbers they are being criticized for not providing now. northern cities have plans for snow/blizzards and what the cities can't cover, the state does. where's the plan in new orleans/louisiana? why does the federal government have to build the levees? where has their tax money been going for the last 20 years? did mardi gras need more funding? also, where is the police/fire/medical personel in the area and why don't they have the equipment to do their job in a situation like this? sure its never happened to this degree, but they can still institute some kind of attempt to formulate a plan.

i think its ridiculous that the growing mentality is that the federal government needs to do everything. seriously, why don't we go ahead and convert to a socialist state and relieve all the stress that comes with decision making, thought, and dignity? Democracy, yes, but first a powerful government. Yes, lets do that and forget about the concept this country was founded on.

The local and state government should be figureing this out, heck raise taxes till you can pump the stuff out, but they should not be complaining because the federal government is taking too long to fix a problem they should have prepared for.
1st. New Orleans isnt a bvery rich city in the beginning
2nd. This is the first tiem in Us history that something like this has happen, a whole city deserted and flooded completly.
N.O. cant handle all this its not San Fran, it isnt New York its New ORleans They port alot of stuf formt he gulf there, but its not a rich city. its like having Dekalb couny just explode, and the state of GA not helping or waiting 4 days to do so

Here was the plan:

if it floods - the levees will keep the water back
If it goes over the levees - the puimps will pump
WHat happen?
The levees broke, and than the Pumps stopped working. They werent ready for it. They knew it COULD happen, but they wqerent ready for it. (/11 was pretty bad, but this is said to be worse.

It snot bush's repsonsibilty to act? WHAT, The governor needed help she didnt know what to do, who do u turn to? SHouldnt you be able to look to you leader for help? The levees were maintained byt the state, which is funded by the government... ill let you tell me who decides ont he funds for the state.

"where is the police/fire/medical personel in the area and why don't they have the equipment to do their job in a situation like this? sure its never happened to this degree, but they can still institute some kind of attempt to formulate a plan."

NO power - no communication - no gas - no way of getting around - no phones. Thats why everyone is upset...you basically are asking the SAME questions the ppl out ther are. And you are questioning why they are asking it. The state doesnt do its job, than u go higher up, and after 4 days, and there is still no plan form the government...what next?

THis aint new, they knew it could happen when they built the city but it never has. Just like the San Dreas Fault, one day there will be the Earthquakke that puts Cali under the same fate as Louisiana is.

HOw long shoudl it really take it to get helicopters out.. really any of us could have thought of a plan in 10 minutes.
