PERSONALLY, i've had one experience involving drinking that pretty much difused all my willingness to be drunk/drive:
this azzhole was high(weed) drunk(3x's over the limit) and geeked(cocaine).
plowed into me as i was at a complete stop at a redlight.
he was going an estimated 75-80mph when he crossed over from the left lane to my lane.
this is my truck, and i was awake through the whole ordeal, hell had to climb out of it...
my truck exploded on initial impact,
rolled over 85 feet through an intersection that was green,
over a park sign that and came to rest on it's passenger side. I...not fire/rescue....had to get out of the tshirt that was on fire, out of my seatbelt and out of the truck...after dislodging my foot from under my seat.
you know what dude asked me?
well after he was told he didnt kill me...."wuz you driving that truck?"
me: "yeah"
him "bullshyt...you wasnt drivin that" got back into his car and tried to start it up...which was a fail, he sheared the top of his engine block off.
