If you have to travel to hang out, then it is long distance to me. Is she your girlfriend from highschool? I have found that highschool relationships usually suck because with the limited amount of people to choose from, it makes you have to "deal with" a lot more stuff in a relationship than you should.

Your current GF seems too controlling (along with long distance), so I say that you should start dating other girls (definitely not the ex, though). There's a million of them out there.
