Correlation /= Causation. Conservative Democrats and Liberal Republicans are a thing. Of course, parties altogether are just names. It's also fair to note that some people's definition of conservative/liberal is a tad skewed from the actual definition of conservative/liberal.

BTW, about half of all Americans that associate with a party have no clue what the party they associate with is about. A black man that votes dem usually does it because he always has, just like his family and friends. He has no clue what the party or candidate he is voting for is all about. He is voting for the guy with the D next to his name.
