    Default high idle problem

I was driving up 75 North and suddenly my car felt liked something slipped out of place. I pressed down the clutch to the floor, and the idle was stuck at 3000 rpms. The car still shifts into gear and it engages properly, but at a higher rpm now. No check engine light came on and it was not overheating. I looked for leaks of oil, but found nothing. What could be the problem?

Alright, I checked all the vacuum lines coming from the intake manifold and all were firmly connected. I also took a look at all the other vacuum lines and they were also firmly connected. I tightened the gas cap and the idling went down to about 2000rpms. After driving around for a while, the idle dropped to 1000rpms, but now the idle is uneven. I keeps going up and down slightly. The idle is tremendously lower now, which is good, but the unevenness of it has me wondering. Anybody have any ideas?

Today the accelerator is sticking in place when it is not depressed. I have top give a it a light tap to get it loose enough to move the car.

Check the IACV - Idle air control valve. Its under the throttle body on dc-2's. n Might have backed itself loose. This happened to me on my 94. It was a dry rotted o-ring on the IACV.

also if the pedal is sticking clean the butterfly in the tb that it gunked up and cause the butterfly to stay open with out returning to close. But if the idle is just up and done will sitting at a stop light or some thing like that it is your iacv. Is that the org tb on there and has it ever been taken off the car? If that gasket didnt seal right around the tb it will cause that kind of issue. A way to check that would be to get a can of carb cleaner while it is runnign and spray around the tb were it meets the im ( intake manifold) if the idles bogs out or increases you could have a leak ( meaning a bad gasket) at the tb.

I will check the tb gasket tomorrow, but I must know what the FITV is and where it is located.

this is like the third post i've seen already with idle problems with a probable cause of DIRT/FILTH/CRAP/SHIT/DEBRIS/CACA/POOPOO ETC in the fuel delivery and induction system of a honda.

DUN DUN DUN DUN!!! PRVENTATIVE MAINTENENCE!!! changing air filter every 12,000 miles WHOAH!!!!!!

    Air filter $12

    Fuel system cleaner $5

    Carb & choke cleaner $3

Doing recommended maintenence on your car = a lot cheaper and easier than fixing the problem AFTERRRRRRRRR you have the problem.
