Idle oil pressure is 40-50psi depending on temperature. Vtec needs 53-55psi to operate /engage rocker arms at which point oil pressure near redline can hit almost 90psi in some cases.Originally Posted by teh_mugen18
oh, and not to mention the fact that when the internals inside the head are locked for vtec to be ''active'', that the oil pressure at idle is pretty much 0 psi.... see if he likes spinning his bearings
I did a test one time on my solenoid to make sure it was working, and clicked it on at idle for a couple seconds, and bam-- oil pressure gauge dipped BIG time, to almost zero.
Vtec at idle would cause the car to run horrible but shouldn't see a dramatic drop in oil pressure. Skunk2 pro 3 cams have huge primary lobes and I never saw a drop in oil pressure
