from what i have looked up this morning i think it depends on the vehicle itself. like many people have said if you car wasnt built for 93 oct it wont make you car faster LOL but it could save you alittle money or break even for cleaner gas that will make your car run better.

I have noticed that my car is slightly sluggish with 87 and it SUCKS IT DOWN.

With 93 it's normal and sips on it.

If you're motor isn't designed to utilize the properties of a higher octane then just stick with the 87, sheesh! If you're really skeptical then run Chad's test and find the results for yourself.

my dad did a test on what was his daily a few years back. 02 chevy 1500 4.3L VORTEC automatic. he ran 2 FULL tanks of....

    87 oct
    91 oct
    93 oct

through his healthy truck with like 40k miles on it. all grades of gas were from amco(sp?) gas stations. he calculated his MPG for each grade of gas. amco ultimate 93 oct gave him such a better MPG that it actually made 93 oct cheaper in the long run. the price difference in the grade of gas was out weighed by the increase in MPG.

he had everything written down and i was at his car lot when everything was added up. looks at my for sale thread for my 98 chevy blazer that i sold about a month ago....

1998 BLAZER 4 DR 2WD/CLEAN/RELIABLE/LOTS OF NEW SUSPENSION PARTS

needless to say, ive seen the results and its cheaper to use 93 oct. if you dont believe me i suggest you do your own test like this
Good idea that people could test out. Of course not all cars may see results such as this.

I put premium in my old Civic and noticed a difference automatically. Just remember Grades just have to do with Octane levels not the quality of the gas. That is why you pay more at a Chevron or Shell compared to other places. Their gasoline itself is better.

I know that if anything goes in my tank besides premium, it will make my car run like shit. My wife tried to pull a fast on me one day by putting mid grade in it and i knew as soon as i started driving. There is a difference, i just dont know what it is. STi needs the good stuff...

Never had a problem with QuikTrip gasoline. That's pretty much the only brand I use, other than BP on occasion.

maybe its because you have a lower compression motor than my 350Z did.....or i just had a bad batch of gas....i dont know.

All cars are designed to run 87 octane under normal driving conditions, but higher octane burns better and "cleaner" as it's more efficient burn

so IF and when you get your B series VTAK swap, dont cheap out on gas. That goes for all cars that "should" use it.

Also Dont go Putting super High octane gas in the car THINKIN its gonna run super good, cause it AINT! unless its tuned for it.
amen i accidentallty put midgrade in one time and about 5 miles later had to do premium and my brothers cocktail for an octane boost so it would run right. i could immediately tell it was the gas and went DOH!!!

This E85 crap they add in now has dropped my gas mileage from 350 to 300 miles per tank which makes me buy more gas. i smell a gov't scam here to get more revenue, only if you ask me though cuz according to total blender me and my cat wear aluminm foil helmets, but i see through the BS. octane boosters have been tested and really dont do much, except maybe run hotter, same as higher octane it is a hotter spark in the chamber so don't destroy your shit. if you do sell it to me.

i dont own a gas station so you guys do what you do but i did want to share the information about what i know
it depends on the setup and motor, some engines are detuned from the factory and if you do some mods and run premium it will do ok. example my brothers 89 GT with 64k miles on it gets massive power gans from simple bolt ons because it was detuned so much from the factory. really do your research from a crdible source before trying it, i kow after aall my bro has done to the car he still runs 87 not 93 like me.

thanks for the corrections it was late as hell and i was typing way to fast in bad computer grammar. lololol as far as your buddy in the gas shortage i had 2 stations that fro some reason had premium refilled, but if i couldn't get any i drove the 40mpg hatch that ran 8 octane.
