    Default Motorcycle riders..

Does anyone in here ride motorcycles or know anything about them? I plan on buying one this winter since I moved back in with my parents and will have extra cash... I just figured I can find one a lot cheaper in the winter rather than the summer or spring. I'm thinking either a Ninja zx-6r or a yamaha r6.. Not really sure yet.. I know how to drive a bike, but I'm just debating on which one to get.. Basically, no matter what I buy I'm gonna have to lower it cause I'm so short... Is a Ninja heavier or lighter than the R6?

in my oppinion the ninja is a little bit lighter but im going by a 2005 ninja636. i use to work at a kawai shop and there alot easier to throw around through corners and such but the r6 you get the name and al the glory that comes with it. i think that there are both almost = but it basically comes down to price for me. but its up to you, let me know if you need anymore help

tiffany unless you just want the extra power for your size all you need is a yzf600r or a 600f4i....but if you want the extra power go R6 or 600rr....either one is awesome and they are both extremely reliable

I am wanting to get one as well - but I found that I'm too short for most bikes. I talked to a guy at a Suzuki place and he told me that I should get a GSXR 600 (since that is what I want) and put a lowering kit on there so I can ride it ok.

A friend of mine had a Ninja - and had nothing but problems with it. An ex of mine had a Honda F4i and that thing was great. it was in 2 wrecks and is still running (of course, there was some body damage) but they hold up well.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it!

first off, you dont "drive" a motorcycle, you "ride" it.

get that down first before you start "riding"

and I dont know how much cash you are gonna have laying around, but do not, I repeat, do not buy a bike unless you have the money to buy gear.

I suggest you to go ahead and and set aside about $1,000 along with whatever you are saving for the bike.

you are gonna need a leather jacket, a good helmet that fits you, a nice pair of gloves, and some riding boots...not tennis shoes....

depending where you shop and what brands you buy, all that gear can run you from $800-$1200

I say go ahead and buy your gear now, that way once you have your bike, you can ride without anyone making fun of you.

a yzf600 is heavier than a katana...i had a katana as my first bike and a yzf as my 2nd, i liked both but an r6 or zx6r would look better...lol

but the yzf600's and katana's are a lot more comfortable

and NEVER lower a bike...lowering a bike makes it more dangerous to handle...you'd much rather drop it a 0 mph because you can't touch the ground instead of it throwing you off because it comes unstable around a corner at 50 mph

careful....there's a guy here with a lowered katana, and he says his lowered kat with no windscreen handles like it's on rails.

the good thing about the yzf600's is that the only thing that changed on them from something like 93 all the way up to now is the stickers and paint schemes...

good luck on a bike but dont lower it... thats almost the worst thing to do to a bike because what would happen when you go over a bump or somehting... you might bottom it and wreck or somethign. i saw a few 500's but all of them look like road/dirt bikes and i dont like the way any of them look

I dont know ya, but I have a 2000 CBR600F4 and its a great bike, Its fast, pretty lite, and you can probably pick one up pretty cheap now. I would suggest that or an F4i. I i really like the Hondas they make a great bike.
Oh and I agree if you can avoid it try not to lower a bike, it can really mess up the handling of a bike.

Here's a picture of mine from when i got it. It look different now, but you get the idea.

and what about the GS500? it's patterned to look like a GSXR, just less powerful and a whole lot less expensive... for about what you'd pay for a used GSXR you'd have a brand new bike that would be a much better learner. seat height on these is 31", where the 600's will average 33".

I had a GS500. It was a great bike. Very forgiving - that's important when you are starting riding.

...also for those of you complaining of being to short to touch the ground, you can also shave some of the foam off the seat and get it a good inch or two lower...but yeah, if you've never sat on a bike most seat heights are around the mid 30's, i know on YZF600 the seat height is 31''
