Default EX intake manafold on a DX

I have 99 civic DX. I was looking for some power gain and did not have a lot of money at the time so a friend of mine had a Skunk2 intake manifold on his EX. well all in all, he sold it to me. well, I put it on my car and I know the ACE censer is located on the throttle body and on the EX it is located on the back of the intake manifold. also you have to change the wire clip from a 3 wire plug in to a 2 wire plug in. well..... I did that and all the car did was pulsate when I started it up. so I had to change it back to the 3 wire lug in on the throttle body. but as of now the car idles to high till it warms up. is it because I need an EX throttle body or what? any suggestions?

just to let everyone know. I have smartened up and I am no longer doing work to this motor. I’m finally working on doing a motor swap. I’m just trying to get it running correctly for now.

you need to convert to 2 wire iacv, use the ex tb, and run obd1 ecu socketed/chipped.

i've been running an ex manifold on my dx for well over 1.5 yrs.

Save up a lil cash for an ex head, tb, and ecu. Swap it in, do a little bit of wiring, and have fun with vtec.

Ok.... Look at it this way.... mini-me swap...120-130hp=$500.... B16 obdII 160hp=$2500....

Is it really worth the extra 2 g's?

Ever considered the mini-me swap and then later on turbo? You can put out 180WHP on a stock d block reliably as long as you have a good tune. You can piece together a NICE kit for less than 1500 and have a ball.... I dunno. Just throwin it out there for ya.

i second that, but 200whp is attainable reliably and way more torque for less than the swap.

Theres TONS of people who have done a mini-me swap. Including my self... And theres also a large amount of folks who turbo their d. Try checking out the turbo section of www.honda-tech.com .... Or www.turbod16.com Or.... www.homemadeturbo.com ....Or heres some numbers you *could* be putting up: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1067168 Or..... Check out one of sctty's setups: http://hometown.aol.com/scttydb411/hmtproject.html ............That should keep you busy.

Lets just say you get about as much... maybe a tad more than a normal d16z6 or d16y8 would because of higher compression.... Which is about 120-130hp at the crank. Which is about a 20-30 hp jump from where you're at.

Ok... So you would take choice A. over choice B.??

    A. B16a... 160hp 111ft lbs torque... $2,800

    B. Z6 or Y8 mini me swap... 130hp 100ft lbs torque... $500
    B1. Turbo kit... 200hp 180ft lbs torque... $1500-

I mean... Its almost just common sense.

    160hp 111ft lbs tq = 2800

    200hp 180ft lbs tq = 2000

Does that make any sense to you?

I dunno. Its up to you.... Just wanna make sure you realize something though. Unless you have big plans for that b16... Your still gonna be slow. Dont expect more than high 14's.

If you piece it together yourself and are crafty, more like around 1000.00.

Yes. If you threw on a z6 or y8 head, im, tb, and ecu... You would get as much or a tad bit more than what the stock z6 or y8 engines put out. Which is about 120-130. Thats what you should expect. To tell you the truth... If your on any type of budget... Or you even have to ask how much shit is... This is probably the route you wanna go. This is cheap. And everything is progressive. You can take your time to buy all your mini me parts and put em on in a weekend. Then save money and start parting together a kit... Then throw it on... Then save money to build your block... Then turn up the boost and get it tuned... Theres so many possibilities...

you make a good point. and with my existing performance parts i will have more HP also if i save up only $1000 for the Gude head package (givies around 30-40 HP to stock) i might be happy. i just want a "stout" motor. if you know what i mean by that. so is the 120-130 HP to the crank or wheels?

Sadly its 120-130 at the crank...
But also remember that the b16's 160 is also at the crank... and only comes with 10 more tq...

TQ is what counts the most... IMO.

If your willing to spend some money on the minime swap... Maybe save up some cash... Buy a bare head... And build it the way you'd like. Look up some street cams made by zex or some other reliable companies(brain fart... cant think of any right now)... Then maybe titanium valves, springs, etc... then chipped ecu and raise ur redline a bit... Who knows... possiblities are endless.

ok, well, if i do it, i will probibly go with the Head package (just because time and money) i will need to rebuild my botom end (just b.c it has 77,000mi on it), then go with a OBD1 ECU with a Hondata. allong with my current performance parts. i might be happy with it. and i can probibly do it all for under $2000. probibly latter i will put a turbo kit together. but i want at least 160HP at the wheels before the turbo.

Ok.... You've got a lot to learn man... READ READ READ READ SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH on www.honda-tech.com .... First of all... You dont need to rebuild your bottom end... I have 130,000 miles on the clock and did a mini me swap about 15000 miles ago and still no problems to this day.... Second- The car is a 99 correct? With you converting to obd1... how do you plan on passing emissions?... Third- Why is your goal 160WHP? I'm not gonna lie... Thats gonna be hard for a SOHC D16 to push out 160WHP all motor... And you should think alot about your decision before you go buying parts, etc... Building an all motor SOHC will require high compression and a cam that probably wont be good for turbo... Gotta make up your mind on what you wanna do. Cant go with both.... If you want to start building your head and block and plan to turbo later... Put in parts that will benifit your plans. Low compression pistons, eagle rods, turbo cam, ETC...
