What kind of tools do you use?

Just wondering what many IA members use and why.

I mainly use Kobalt hand tools. Mainly cause there's a lifetime warranty and I get them at a discount.
I also use DeWalt and Stanley, cause they're rated as very good tools.

I have far less than 1k invested in tools. Just wondering what you would suggest as far as good tools. Planning to get pneumatic soon.

for pneumatic.. ingersol-rand is the way to go.
hand tools i use mostly snap-on and a few matco. ive got some craftsman in there also.
for specialty i use alot of otc & lisle tools.

I have chinky dinky made in china tools.

JK. I have a lil over $20K in snap on hand tools, snap on master box, snap on roll cart, and other snap on equipments. I also have a craftsman box with all craftsman tools that i never touched in so long.

majority snap on. A $250 set of wrenches may seem expensive, but once you use their flank drives... oh man... it's like a whole new world.

thats what im talking about, especially the high performance wrenches. If you cant take a nut off with that, it'll break it off for ya.

When I'm out actually buying tools, I get either Craftsman or Snap On.... I almost prefer craftsman, because they don't question **** when you bring them back. I use my craftsman 1/2 inch drive sockets on my cordless impact (I know I know.. horrible habit), and have yet to **** one of the sockets up... I even use the 32/36mm sockets on axles with the impact and they don't complain.

If I'm in the middle of a project and am like "crap I need a *insert random tool here* to get this bolt off", there's a pep boys 2 seconds from my house, so I hit up the cheap crap tools.

I have about 10K invested in a toolbox that stands as tall as me. I bought my tool box used. I have 5 boxes and all of them are filled with tools that, to be honest, some of them I probably have used once or have yet to use them but I have them for just in case I need to use it, it's there. I'm a tool freak and a funky looking tool that no one else has that I've never seen before and might use once is something I'll buy for the hell of it.

^^Exactly.. there are snap on tools I have never touched and pep boys tools I use daily. I never judge a tool's usefulness by the brand.. however if I find something I like, such as a wrench that fits nicely in my hand and in hard to reach spots, a pair of pliers that work well, I am quick to go out and buy 2-3 more of them.

Didn't know this thread was still active.

I just bought my first toolbox last week, it's nice. Even my dad likes it. Retails for 371, got it for 150 new. I, myself, also prefers to buy tools only when they are on sale.

I'm not the type to buy ipods or phones with my extra cash, but would rather buy tools, strange, I know.

Seeming how I work at a Chevrolet dealership, I have about 12k in tools. Varies from Snap-On, Matco, Blue Point, Craftsman, Stanley. I have 3 tool boxes, one of which is taller than I (craftsman), one is about 4 ft tall, and the other is just a 3 draw. I have two snap-on creepers, Snap-on impact and Blue Point impact, and various Blue Point air tools. Most of my hand tools (wrench's, sockets, ratchets) are Snap-on and Matco, and ( screwdrivers and misc. tools) are Stanley. I will admit, I inheirited(sp) most of the tools from my brother, as he is the Service Manager there. But I still owe the Snap-on and Matco guys alot of money. I love my tools, and I love my job....getting to laugh at broken down Chevy's....nothing better.

nothign wrong with that. i spent about $200 i have saved for a new roll around craftsman tool box. started out as money for some sanding blocks, buffer and things you know.

i know about tools being your life too. i do paint and body so if i lose my tools i'm just focked.

snap on hand tools and IR air tools.. i like snap on hand tools because they have alot more in the tools then you think.. if you use them everyday then buy nicer tools but if not then there i nothign wrong with using craftsman etc.. but snap on has a better strength to them they are made with a different metal and the box end doesnt stetch with use as some brands might.

Snap on, Bluepoint, IR air tools, a few Matco tools. Electric 3/8" makita is also one of my favorite tools. I have spent probably 3-4k in the last 4 months alone.. lol I also work at an acura dealership ^ and need new tools about every week. I just keep a list of anything I've borrwed and buy it as I can.

Haha I am cheap, so I use greatneck crap when it comes to sockets and wrenches.

majority matco and some snap on stuff. i got about $25k including my box but i work at an independent shop that does everything and anything including tons of custom work so i have to have all sorts of tools.
