Default Battle of the Generations-Which MK do you love?

So as the title states. Im curious as to what kinda dubs you prefer.

This forums been a lil dead so we need to get some debate going on about something.

It dosnt have to be the type of car you drive just the one you feel is the best out of the different generations of Golf/Jettas

    So what is it MK1s, MK2s, MK3s, EmmmmmmKayyyyy4s or the MK5

Please post and give some reasons to why you like that model more. Is it cause its easy to work on and get parts for or is it the lines and the styling that really gets ya or is it power you like.

Ok so I picked the MK2s because they are light and really rigid and handle well while being a little bit bigger than the first generation.

BTW in the poll mk4s are the SHORTBUS not SLowbus i guess there is a reason I use to own one

NB is basically a MkIV, so I went with that.
    I love them all, though.

Although I plan to to buy another Mk4, Mk2 is my favorite. I love the single round headlights.

I might as well post a picture...

I like the looks of the MKIIs the most, same reason as Kyle. The car just looks so simple and good versus the MKIV which just looks plain.

MkII's are the best ones IMO. The later generations are heavy and are meant to be cruisers. They just don't feel as tight and nimble as the MkII. And the more advanced engine management brings with it a hose of reliability problems. MkIV guys in the forums are getting CEL's every other week. And the MkIV's also had issues with recalls etc. And the availability on used parts is pretty much zero, which means you have to depend on the dealer, and most VW dealers (I'm looking @ you Jim Ellis) are the suck.

As to what I don't like about the other cars, its the whole JDM thing. The rounded bodies just don't look to be as cleanly styled. And the engines don't have any torque. And I don't like that low down seating position that Honda/Acura use. The final straw is I hate the "ricer" culture that is all about body kits and altezzas and wings with stock engines, or engines that don't match the level of modifiaction as the body. If you're going to have more scoops and wings than a goddamn Lambo, you should have more engine than a Lambo. [/rant]

Edit: you said "makes" so I thought you meant the other manufacturers. Did you actually mean "marks" as in MkI, MkII, MkIII, and emm-kay 4?

Note: I hate Mk5's. Too round, too heavy, they kinda look like eggs.

LOL at a MK4 driver calling a MK5 a pig. I think its only like 240 lbs heavier or something with a more powerful engine.

Yeah I know. But I am getting real sick of this bigger car more powerful engine concept. VW GTIs are about using a smaller platform and a small engine to perofrm like bigger cars. Now GTI's are becoming those bigger cars.

    If I had an Mk3 I'd say the same about a mk4.

    My favorite VWs in order:
    1. Old Beetle
    2. Mk5
    3. Mk3
    4. New Beetle
    5. Mk2
    6. Mk1
    7. Mk4

I would have an old Beetle as my only car if it was practical, so thats why I have the Mk3. I use to have a Mk2 Jetta but it's boxy lines look rather old. I don't like the Mk4 chassis at all; I do like the 1.8T engine though.

And about the MkII's lines looking "old"... thats why I love them. The boxy design is so clean it's just timeless. The MkIII to me just looks like the "fat Elvis" version of a MkII.

I like them too, but only with certain things done. I don't like the early parts. If I were to get another Mk2 it would have to have big doors, big bumpers, Bronze BBS RAs, and lowered some. I like the Mk3 a little more because it looks a tad bit more modern and it has a rounder body.

Ltdnismorace, if you want yours to look a little better try some of this cheap stuff:
    -OEM Sideskirts
    -Euro VR6 lip
-15" BBS RAs off of a Corrado G60
    -Badgeless front grill
    -Repainted side moldings

cool but i don't really wanna spend a whole lot of money making it nicer cause it's a DD and with our roads up here in WV it would get messed up pretty quick.

Of course it depends on the car too so its a bit subjective. A MkIV set up for the track is better than a riced out MkII.

Ah thanks for pointing that out, I'm not familiar with all the BBS wheels. I have some of the Mk2 RAs that I tried out on my Jetta, I didn't like the look b/c they were too small. But 15" or 16" wheels look perfect on Mk3s.

I have noticed ppl who are into only the older models of vw are the ppl who like mkvs.

Ppl who are into mkiii and mkiv hate the mkv.

    Am I wrong?
I belong to the 2nd group, altho I'm dying to buy a rado or a mkii.

I love the new MkV. I can't believe no one else is showing the new school love. I would suggest most people take a test drive, that may sway a few votes.
