Props to you for doing your research opposed to just buying random parts. Your factory intercooler setup should be sufficient to ~300whp IIRC.
On a different note, here is a short clip that LB took yesterday at LTGP. The wagon had an STi drivetrain and was moving right along. We were duking it out for a good 20 minutes during the last session of the day. The only issue I experienced was blowing an intercooler pipe on the fourth lap of the first session of the morning. I rechecked all the remaining clamps and never had any other issues.

Alot of people do an STi intercooler, but the USDM ones are a bit smaller than the JDM ones and tracking down a JDM one is a hassle, not to mention it can be costly despite being a used part. The popular solution- and the route I'm going:
