LB and I just bought a 46" LED Samsung from Best Buy 2-3 weeks ago and love it so far. From what researched I've done, a plasma is good for dark rooms. The blacks will be a nice deep black but the screen glares a lot. They also have a tendancy to burn as well.
IMO, the picture quality of the LED-LCD vs a regular LCD is a good difference to justify the cost difference between the two.
And it was only ~$100 difference between the LCD and LED for ours too, so there's really no reason to settle for the LCD IMHO.
The picture quality of a plasma was enough to steer me away from one. The LG we are looking at is a 47" LCD 1080p
