kirk hammet? come on dude. joe satriani taught him everything he knows, to bad he didnt pick up more of joe's talent and ability. jimi was a pioneer in his day but is not by far the best guitar player ever.

If you don't put Van Halen in at least top 3, you've never heard of him. Later, QD.

i knew i was voting for him before i even made the poll

2nd choice would be Lifeson, but i guess that's due to my bias toward Rush

    Agreed. Oh well...
these are all i could think of off the top of my head. And yes, I should've put Pete Townshend on the list... but i bet most of the kids here probably don't even know who he is. They're all too busy cramming their iPods with bullshit like fallout boy and hansen.

    1.) Bob Stinson (Replacements)

    2.) Billy Zoom (X)

    3.) Fletcher (Pennywise)

    4.) Keith Richards (Stones)

    5.) Neil Young

My choices are about my musical taste rather than their musical ability. Stinson put down some decent tracks in the studio but live he was hit or miss. None of these guys are very technical, but they really sell their lines despite their simplicity. I can't get into Van Halen, Vai, Satriani, or any of those other guys. Its all about the technical and there really isn't any soul to it at all. Its just some wanker saying "look what I can do"

I can only assume by your comment that you arent familiar with alot of their work, while some songs are drowned by the technicality they all have several awesome songs that convey plenty of soul.

I don't think any guitarist of today's music would qualify. The best of the best came in the 70's and 80's. Later, QD.

The best guitar players are not only from the US . Walter Giardino (Argentina) and Jorge Salan (spain) among others are really good and to me they are in the top 10 guitar player of the world.

Here its a video of Jorge Salans solo:

How many of you actually play guitar? Ive realized over the years those of us who actually play appreciate different players for their ability and people who dont play tend to appreciate guitar players for other reasons
